Sep 21, 2014 9:47 PM in response to Crimson Generalby Shaunfromhants,I do apologise, i was simply trying to say when the Siri severs go down or have problems then one can't use dictation or Siri.
in my opinion the problems is with the Apple severs not not directly with Pages. I now have some use of dictation within Pages when I had nothing at all.
Also finding if I move the Cursor away from the last text or special character if applied then I have much better use of dictation. Clearly there's still problems with the service but I can see improvement .

Sep 21, 2014 11:52 PM in response to AryehVTby bean481,The dictation Mike is only available in messages and mail, nowhere else.

Sep 22, 2014 6:38 PM in response to bean481by chuckfromsuffolk,This is incorrect. I was using dictation in Pages for two weeks (brand new iPad). Then the situation that I described, above, happened. The mic is still there, in Pages; it just doesn't work.

Sep 22, 2014 6:48 PM in response to chuckfromsuffolkby bean481,On my iPhone 5S the Mike and dictation work in Pages. On my iPad4 there is no Mike in my Pages so obviously dictation cannot work. There's obviously a problem with iPads which depends partly on which one you have.

Sep 22, 2014 7:58 PM in response to AryehVTby Pete Bogfire,I had the same problems on my iPad mini after installing iOS 8. I also noticed that I had less than half a gig of memory. I dumped a bunch of stuff so I had over 4 gig. It works a lot better now. Not perfect, but better.

Sep 22, 2014 8:14 PM in response to Pete Bogfireby bean481,I Checked my iPad memory and it had loads. At the same time I noticed that Siri was turned off. Turning it on and going back to Pages I found the Mike had appeared and now dictation works! Yeah!

Sep 22, 2014 9:38 PM in response to bean481by Crimson General,I also tried this yesterday and it worked for a while. Perhaps they have made adjustments on the servers and the fix will be enduring. However, I was back to crashing in almost no time. Good luck to us all.

Sep 25, 2014 1:55 PM in response to AryehVTby chuckfromsuffolk,★HelpfulThere is a work-around! Just got off the phone with a Tech, and he said that there is a work-around that seems to do the trick, until they get around to fixing the bug.
Apparently, you have to hit the RETURN key before hitting the mic button. You have to go back in afterwards, and clean up the extra RETURNS you've had to insert to keep it going.

Sep 25, 2014 7:17 PM in response to chuckfromsuffolkby bean481,Thank you for your reply. By accident i found that Siri was off. Turning it on solved the problem.

Sep 27, 2014 10:29 AM in response to AryehVTby Spyderslegs,I have this too I don't think it's a Siri problem as I'm in a wifi network connected to fiber broadband.. The only fix that works is to create a new document dictation always works then which is of course useless. Sometimes holding the button down works sometimes keeping your finger pressed down where the button was and speaking works. C'mon Apple fix this!

Sep 27, 2014 3:07 PM in response to Spyderslegsby chuckfromsuffolk,Just got this follow-up email from the Apple guy I was on the phone with:
"I got a response back from the Engineering folks, and just as expected, they are aware of this issue and working towards a fix that will likely be an update hopefully soon. "
So it's a known bug in ios8, and will hopefully be addressed in the next update.

Sep 28, 2014 2:34 AM in response to chuckfromsuffolkby Heartpeter,Just tried Pages again after updating to 8.0.2, and it still doesn't work!however Notes does still work I'm pleased to say. so I am dictating into notes, and then copying and pasting into Pages. Hopefully the solution will be with us soon.

Sep 28, 2014 6:08 PM in response to chuckfromsuffolkby LJeanette,It worked! Thank you. I talked with 2 Apple folks yesterday and neither was aware of the problem, and being a brand new iPhone user I was ready to throw in the towel and get Samsung since this is an important feature for me. So if your siri is turned on and your internet connection is good, be sure to try the return key and give Apple a call so they FIX it.
