Sep 21, 2014 11:26 AM in response to displacedgothamistby MBinPotomac,Problem is only on 5.0 ghz. Mine works ok on 2.4 ghz band. But, this is suboptimal as there is more interference in the neighborhood and there is much less bandwidth.

Sep 21, 2014 6:22 PM in response to NikChby Koalaj,I had the same issue with the iPad air after upgrade. Slow internet and hung network connection. Streaming would stop. Changed from 5Ghz to 2.4GHz and issue has been worked around. This is not a solution, but a work around.

Sep 25, 2014 7:53 AM in response to NikChby displacedgothamist,Ok tried changing it to 2.4 and while it's marginally better than the auto setting, still having sporadic issues with connectivity. Is there a fix coming for this soon, anyone know? It's a bit frustrating.

Sep 25, 2014 5:35 PM in response to NikChby carrollfromenid,I have been working with Apple Tech Support for the last three days on the 5G issue and the iPad Air. I am having exactly the same problem with not being able to connect with 5G. They know there is a problem and suspect it has to do with the fact that they upped the security in iOS 8 and that may be the problem. They have called me three times asking for more info, so maybe there is hope that they will get it fixed. Just talked to them again this evening. My iPhone 5 connects and works fine with 5G and so does my Mac Book Air, so I know it's not the wireless router.

Sep 25, 2014 6:50 PM in response to NikChby AGthang,100% the same issues you reported. Using a Netgear n7000. 2.4ghz is fine. But 5ghz is spotty at best and constantly cuts out.
This is all right right after upgrading to iOS 8. My iPhone 6 is fine and same with my older macbook pro and dell laptop all fine on both connections.
Apple, what's up?

Sep 25, 2014 7:27 PM in response to AGthangby MBinPotomac,I have Neatgear r7000. Exactly same. iPhone 6 works fine on 5.0 ghz, as does Mac Mini, MacBook Air and Windows 7. IPad Air only works consistently on 2.4ghz.

Sep 25, 2014 9:33 PM in response to MBinPotomacby TRS_1974,I thought the same thing but I was wrong. My iPad Air started doing it again on 5 GHz.

Sep 26, 2014 12:41 AM in response to NikChby Cocobearbear,I have both iPad Air and Mini. Only the iPad Air had the problem connecting to 5GHz Wifi AC. I was about to bring it to the Apple Store when the 8.0.2 update is released. The update seems to have solve the issue. Glad to know I am not alone with this issue.

Sep 26, 2014 5:45 AM in response to cali71awby AGthang,8.0.2 update did not appear to fix issue for me at all. Odd thing is that the upstream part of the connection seems "less broken" if that makes sense. See tests below.
Same results. Using speed test as a barometer of throughput (average speeds on my internet connection usually are 25 Mbps Down, 10 Mbps Up):
On my Netgear R7000.
5Ghz 802.11ac
- On iPad air:
- Down: 0.5 Mbps (at best. Tried 3x similar result)
- Up: 6-7 Mbps
- On iPhone 5 & 6 (both running iOS 8) and a Dell Laptop running Win 7:
- Down: 27 Mbps
- Up: 9 Mbps
2.4 GHZ 802.11n
- All devices behave similar:
- Down: Around 25-27 Mbps
- Up around 7 Mbps
- On iPad air:

Sep 26, 2014 6:49 AM in response to AGthangby jhonryan,IOS 8.0.2: The False Hope.
Didn't fix the 5G issue for me as well. I didn't expect it to. I didn't do extensive testing other than connect try to browse (it works) then open pandora (it stopped working). Restarted the device and attempted to see how long I could browse (about 5 mins before data stopped flowing).
Back to 2.4Ghz for now (ugh).

Sep 26, 2014 6:49 AM in response to AGthangby TRS_1974,I have the Asus RT-AC68R which uses the same chipset as the R7000. It is disappointing that this issue arose when things were just fine in 7.x. I tried turning off implicit beam forming but it had no effect. This is definitely an iPad driver issue.
