Really strange.  I could swear that Siri worked fine for me the first time i tried it with my new iPhone 6+.  Now I see something similar to the others on this thread.  It works with a wired headset, or with my BT headset.  The internal mic is a no go.  The internal mic works fine if I record a video.  "Hey Siri" seems to only work for me with the wired headset.  I can see why it would not work with a BT headset.  That would probably kill the headset battery pretty quickly.  Using the button on the BT headset is fine by me, then again in the car maybe once I figure out the internal mic thing the internal mic will listen for hey siri even when BT headset on?

Anyway, I'm hoping other here can figure this out.  I just uninstalled swiftkey and will test again.  Swifkey was bugging me a little anyway.  In some apps it didn't display correctly.  I have to find an empty conference room to test this out so my coworkers don't think I'm crazy shouting at my phone ;-)

Removing swiftkey did not make a difference.  Internal Mic does not work with Siri or with Dictation in messages.  Oddly enough when I disable Siri, the internal mic worked fine with the "Voice Command" feature.  It also works fine with the video recorder when doing a quick test.

I'm a bit frustrated.  I spent over 2 hours in support chat yesterday.  We tried everything.  Reset Network, Reset All Settings, Restore as New.  Nothing worked.  I restored from a backup now, so at least I'm back where I started.  Siri refuses to listen to me using internal mic.  Voice memo works fine so I don't think it's a hardware problem.  I might just give up on this, really.  I don't actually use Siri and usually have my headset on in car anyway and it works with headset (wired or BT).  We installed 8.0.2 while doing the chat and it did not make a difference.  They made an appointment to have an engineer call me later, but don't have high hopes.  Maybe they will learn something from my case to code up a fix?  It is a little encouraging to hear I am not alone, which points to a software issue.

Question for the others with this problem - do you all have a BT headset paired?  Have you all installed a thirdparty keyboard like swiftkey at some point?

Another unrelated question.  Is there a way to have this support site not forget my login?  When I click on the link in mail I come back to the thread, but not logged in.  When I log in I go back to the support home and have to find the thread again.

    John

I was on phone with senior advisor today for two hours.  He was very nice and we tried a few things, but still have the same problem.  He agrees that it is probably not a hardware issue.  He has escalated my case to engineering and they will get back to me.  If any of you figures out a solution, please post here.  I honestly don't really use Siri, but still want to figure this out if I can.

I'm glad that a senior adviser at Apple agrees that it is probably not a hardware issue -- because it isn't! (by the way, the "senior advisers" are the entry-level tech support people at Apple of yesteryear)

After I updated to 8.0.2 from 8.0.1 on my iPhone 5S, I again found that I was unable to use Siri over the built-in mic. As I tried to restore this capability--and finally was successful--, I realize that I may not have listed all the steps that led to a successful outcome (I know that @ambercrystal1980 was unable to obtain the same results). I'm not sure that all of the following steps are required -- but they did lead to my regaining the ability to use Siri with the built-in microphone on my iPhone.

So if you're unable to invoke Siri successfully, try the following:

    1. Attempt to invoke Siri over a bluetooth connection.

    2. Disable the bluetooth connection

    3. [this is the missing step] After doing so, perform a soft reset on your phone [whose display should be on] by pressing and holding the “Home” and “Sleep/Wake” buttons at the same time until you see an Apple logo appear on the screen (ignore the “Slide to power off” prompt) and then *disappear* -- in effect, your phone will reboot twice. Be sure to release these buttons as soon as the Apple logo disappears, or else you may see the picture asking you to connect your iPhone to iTunes (if this happens, hold down both buttons again until the iPhone reboots).

    4. Now try to use Siri with the built-in microphone. It probably will not work at first. But keep trying. It should eventually start working -- at least it did for me.

I noticed that it seem to be a problem with the microphone level. If I shout to Siri the volume level line starts to move a little bit. Siri complains that she can't understand me, instead of giving me some hints what to ask...

Does sombody know how to change the mic-level for Siri?

There is no such setting. Have you tried the soft reset that I suggested above?

Oddly enough in my case, when I bring up Siri the line is not flat.  The waves are huge, but she does not hear anything I say.  I tried shouting into the phone, but did not do anything other than make me feel like an idiot. ;-)  I have to try the process above that mentions using BT and resetting.

Yes. But without success. BT still works - internal mic don't.

    Nevertheless thanks for the hints.
