Q: My Late 2008 Macbook Pro does not work with a Samsung T200HD monitor

I have the late 2008 model of the aluminium macbook pro 13" and I am trying to attach a Samsung T200HD 20" monitor as a second screen.

I have tried to attach it via a mini displayport adapter in various combinations, (mini displayport to dvd, mini displayport to hdmi and also mini displayport to vga) all to no avail. Neither of these connections works with the external monitor. When the screen is turned on it shows nothing at all apart form a default error message explaining that there is nothing connected.

I also have a mac mini that I also connect to the Samsung monitor via the mini displayport adapter, and it works fine so I know that its not the adapter or any cables being an issue.

Is the macbook pro incompatible with this monitor? I find it hard to believe that that is the issue as I have read on forums that some people have connected their similar MacBooks to 40" tv's with no problem at all.

I appreciate, in advance, any help that you can offer on this matter as I am starting to loose hair over it now!!

Kind regards
