Q: Mac OS X 10.7.5

Hello,

yesterday i downloaded a game on steam. When i wanted to start the game the program said that Mac OS X 10.8 or a newer version has to be installed. So i checked whether there were some updates and which version of Mac OS X I have installed. Clicking on the Apple symbol on top the left corner of my screen I got all the information to the Mac OS X version i have installed. And  I noticed that the 10.7.5  version is installed which is obviously too underdeveloped for the game i just downloaded. The problem at this point was that there were no updates for Mac OS X. I was a little confused about that because if there is any newer Mac OS X version then my iMac updates automatically. So my problem is that i am still sitting on my 10.7.5 version which seems to be very useless for the game i want to play. I really want to know how I can update the operating system if any update exists for my current Mac OS X version?

best regards

Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and download Mavericks from the Mac App Store.

    Upgrading to Mavericks

You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.

    Upgrading to Mavericks

To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

        OS X Mavericks- System Requirements

Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks

             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later

             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later

             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later

             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later

             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later

             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later

             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later

To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

         Are my applications compatible?

See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.

You're confusing "updates" with "upgrades." There are no further updates for OS X Lion. 10.7.5 was the last update, and you have that.

The technical specifications for the upgrades, to Mountain Lion and Mavericks are identical. You should upgrade to Mavericks, it's also a free.

Since Mavericks is not an update, you won't get it by running Software Update.

Mavericks is available from the App Store app:

Thanks. That makes sense. Mac OS X 10.7.5 is the latest version.
