Sep 29, 2014 9:35 AM in response to mariaeditantalby Ralph Landry1,In addition to running EtreCheck, go to Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor and click the Memory button - what does it show bottom center for Memory Pressure? Unless that is green, something is using a lot of memory. You can also click CPU and see if there is a heavy load on the processor. That information combined with the EtreCheck results will give some guidance as to what is going on in your Mac.

Sep 29, 2014 11:24 AM in response to mariaeditantalby stevejobsfan0123,You installed the Genieo adware. Try running AdwareMedic to remove it: http://adwaremedic.com/index.php.
-
Sep 29, 2014 11:36 AM in response to mariaeditantalby Ralph Landry1,Agree with SJF you have to get rid of Genieo - this is typical behavior for that malware. It really serves no useful purpose.
Also, stay away from stuff like MacKeeper and all of the Mac cleaner programs...they are more trouble than they are worth.

ApplicationsWhen you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

Sep 29, 2014 12:52 PM in response to Ralph Landry1by mariaeditantal,Thank you very much both Steve and Ralph. I ran the AdwareMedic. It removed Geneo but my problem is still remaining. I am sorry to say that I installed MacKeeper and ran it. I have uninstalled it now but maybe there still are some thing left of it. What shall I do? And I also have Hazel might that be a problem too?

Sep 29, 2014 3:11 PM in response to Ralph Landry1by mariaeditantal,These are the instructions i found in the link you suggested: " If you remove MacKeeper without unencrypting your data first, you will not be able to access it later." Unfortunately I did remove MacKeeper without unencrypting my data first and now I don't know what to do.

You may need to install MacKeeper, for the sole purpose of un-encrypting the data previously encrypted by MacKeeper. Follow that by uninstalling MacKeeper, according to its instructions.
Having never done that though, I do not know if that will work. If it does not, I recommend restoring your Mac from a Time Machine backup created prior to the corruption it caused.

Oct 9, 2014 9:02 AM in response to John Galtby mariaeditantal,Thanks. It did not work to reinstall MacKeeper. I restored my Mac from Time Machine backup prior to the corruption.
