Q: iPhone 6 health data is gone

I got my iPhone 6 on launch day and it was immediately tracking steps, flights climbed and total mileage. Today, after 6 PM all that data disappeared and the health app dashboard was empty. I can't seem to get my data back even after I've re-added those three items to the dashboard. If I go to show all data, it just tells me there is no data.  I have rebooted the device, but everything is still blank.

 

I can't seem to find anything online where this was working and then it stopped, nor data cleared out.

 

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

    5s/8.0.2

     

    Using Health app with MFP.

     

    Since 8.0.2 I've seen some recording of step data and some recording of calorie data from MFP (usually duplicated so you have to go to Health app and remove it).

     

    On one occasion, Health dashboard was empty and all data gone.

    I restarted phone and the dashboard returned.

    This morning I see the dashboard has gone again.

     

    Steps are being recorded by other apps, so not hardware, I don't think.

     

    Health app/HealthKit and/or the back end services seem to be broken.

     

    I don't think I'll be relying on it for anything until these basic things are fixed.

    Have the same issue on my IPhone 5s (8.0.2).

    Data is appearing and disappearing from Health app whenever it wants.

    Moreover - I'm not able to insert any data to app in time of disappearing and also trying to read what have been inserted previously does not work - there is still "waiting circle" displayed.

     

    Anyone found any solution/workaround?

    Thanks BVsmurfette for finding and posting that article from Apple. If mine stops working again, I will test it also.

     

    Eager to hear if the restore ended up working for you. Crossing my fingers!

    Unfortunately, still no luck on my end.  Health app is still showing no data.
    At this point i'm at a loss as to what to do

    Thanks BVsmurfette!  I've had off and on problems with the Health app not showing data but it's been consistently broken since I upgraded to 8.0.2.  The process in that link worked in my case, after walking around with the Health app on I restarted my phone and things are good again.    Hopefully it'll stay working this time!

    So sorry to hear that didn't work for you, BVsmurfette.


    The only other thing I could say at this point is to place a call to Apple. They will most likely want to replace your device, which is hopefully still under warranty.


    If you do get the chance to call them, it would be great if you could share your results here for the other 5S users going through the same.

    I just installed iOS 8.1 beta and Health is finally working again.  All data that had disappeared since last Friday is back.

    So given that i'm flying out of the country tomorrow, I decided to suck it up and go to the Apple store this evening to try to get an answer for what was going on with my phone and the health app.  Was previously avoiding this b/c i was assuming the stores in NYC would be a mad-house still with the iPhone6 rush.  And I was right.  Even with a reserved Genius Bar appointment at 4:40pm today, I had to wait in line a good 40 mins past my appointment time. Ugh. Anyways, I expected the wait... and Apple staff was very courteous as always.


    So here's the deal - the solve for this problem is to do a full restore of the phone, and do NOT restore from a backup.  Instead, restore and set it up as a new phone.

    (yes this means you lose your settings and data.... so make sure u have things backed up elsewhere, or that you're ok with losing it all!)

     

    Full story: After troubleshooting and asking me questions for 10 mins, and running a diagnostic test on my phone, the Genius Bar guy assigned to me hypothesized that if there was indeed something wrong with my Health app (ie. software not hardware), then b/c i was restoring from a backup, i was simply restoring back the bad files. ie. something in the back up was corrupt.  Fortunately, i knew i had a full encrypted backup from last night safely stored on my iMac at home, so i let him have at it, and wipe the phone and start it up as a new phone.  And presto, the Health app started working immediately!   He couldn't explain why/what the corrupted file was, but his hypothesis was right.

    Unfortunately, i wasn't sure if i had backed up all my other data elsewhere (eg. i knew I hadn't synced my pics on my phone with iPhoto in a looooong time), and i have a few apps, where i have stored data (like a fitness app) and i didn't want to lose that yet.  So when I got home, I ended up resetting it again, and restoring from my back up to get all my data/settings back.  Health app still isn't working, but at least now i know what the solve is.  Since i'll be away for the next 2 weeks, i think i'm going to leave my phone as is for now.  I hope maybe Apple will issue another iOS update or something that magically restores this strange bug.  If not, then i guess when i'll return, i'll have to deal with this, and decide if restoring as a new phone is what i want to do.

     

    So that's my story.  I hope this info helps all you other guys struggling with the same problem. Good luck!

     

    PS - forgot to add that this was an iPhone 5s that i purchased at launch last year... which if you do the math, means my 1-yr warranty is almost up! in fact, i have less than a week left on it, so that was the other reason i really wanted to get to the store today to make sure there wasn't a hardware issue with the phone itself.

    I Have an iPhone 6 with iOS 8.0.2 and the health app constantly shows an empty dashboard even though I set it up previously and linked in MyFitnessPal and MapMyRun as sources. It has been running fine previously and haven't made any system changes.

     

    I don't think the solution should be to reset your phone!!!

     

    This is becoming very frustrating.

    After a few hours I checked back and the data had returned.

     

    The app is extremely buggy still.

     

    I would advise anyone experiencing the same problems not to reset their phones and wait.

    Have exactly the same issue with my iphone 6 that started the day after the 8.0.2 upgrade  After long process via support call, a restore and setup as new phone fixed the health app; the support guy said that there was some corrupt data and that restoring a recent backup would just put that corrupt data back on the phone again.  

    Setting up phone as new meant I would have to install and configure all apps and folders again, as well as trying to figure out how to get my photos back (I don't use iphoto, long story).

    So, like BVsmurfette I put my old backup back to get my stuff back as it was and hope that apple fixes the issue. I might actually try to use time machine to get an older backup  (before 8.0.2 upgrade) and restore that, see what happens

    My weekly stats for fitness have returned but the Health app is only showing one day stats for nutrition linked with MyFitnessPal. Basically, everytime I upload a meal instead of taking all of the weekly data across its recording that meal only.

    I just experienced this same problem running 8.0.2 on my iPhone 6, restarted my phone and all the data was back on the dashboard. I imagine this won't work for everyone, but at least worth a try to turn off/back on before escalating further.

    Not working for me.

     

    Did a reset yesterday and data came up.

    Data gone again today.

    Another reset and nothing.

     

    Very frustrating.

    So now I've no data in the health app at all and no idea what is going on.

     

    Someone suggested setting up as a new phone? Seriously?

    Only last week I added 45 gigs of stuff to the phone!

    Not an option I'm willing to entertain.
