Q: Cannot log into Apple Support Communities with Safari

This has just started happening to me in the last few days - glad I kept firefox on the iMac - and I see that it has happened at least once before in 2009 but the link to fix it does not work (and I have only letters in my name).

When I enter my log in info and press log in, it gives me the text below.

Looking for something in Apple Support Communities?

The page you tried was not found. You may have used an outdated link or may have typed the address (URL) incorrectly.

Please visit the main page of Apple Support Communities for links to discussion areas.

Once I see this page, when I go back to Support main page and select Apple Support Communities icon or Join the conversation, I get the same page each time.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3), 4GB RAM

This is a real nightmare. I have been experiencing it for months.

Safari - Reset Safari does not fix it.

Develop - Empty Caches does not fix it.

Safari - Preferences - Privacy - Remove all website data (to delete all cookies) does not fix it.

Worst of all, that deleted lots of information (cookies) that I must re-enter now manually. A huge waste of time.

THIS IS a real bug of Apple Support Communities, as explained here:

Is the Apple Support Communities down for everyone?

Looks like the Apple Support forums are having issues with some logins. Only fix was to create a new login account for the Support forums. Voila, all is well.

    http://forums.macresource.com/read.php?1,1757513,1757557

And yes, creating a new account (or updating an older one) fixes it.

APPLE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, FIX IT. THIS IS UTTERLY FRUSTRATING!!! THANKS.

you seem to have jumped in on a thread that may be regarded by most as 'explained' not 'solved'

I see that you have done a lot of work with Safari, to no avail. I am not gonna read the linked thread as ot seems to have the fix quoted:

" And yes, creating a new account (or updating an older one) fixes it."

Is the misbehavior with your old AppleID login consistent? EVERY TIME fails? If joy on any attempt, go immediately to your Bio page and change some things that require "Saving" -- add a product, change your biography, change preferences, etc. - this will cover the updating and older one instruction.

If no joy with an occasional success, you must contact Apple real persons... their preferred path to that is:

Apple ID: Contacting Apple for help with Apple ID account security

    best regards

It's a miracle!!! An image posted by bob actually visible in a thread! O! Joy!

Wanna see what I got when I first came to ASC this AM -- copy > paste this string into a new browser window BUT don't do anything next... totally blank page with the URL in the location field. Cleared on its own after about an hour.

    oopps = string = discussions.apple.com/community/using_apple_support_communities

I got feed up with all the tom-foolery and used the Puffin Web Browser for the screenshot. It's amazing, it loads ASC pages when Safari won't, no double capitols, and back spaces properly. And I found a way to load a screenshot from Safari, I'll try that later.

I'm missing what bobseufert is referring to.

    discussions.apple.com/community/using_apple_support_communities

gives me a page loaded, but blank.

This pm, I'm having these difficulties with ASC.

    -- 1 --

    create post OK.

edit newly created post ... get blank page.

    -- 2 --

Cannot create new discussion thread in this community.  ... get blank page.

Earlier today, I was on the forced ASC coffee break.  Seems responsive now.  Blank pages load very quite.

Aloha rrcharles. i've been meaning to get in touch with you. My screenshot was a email reply I recently receive but it was formatted in the old style. I mentioned it to CCC and he said he had the same thing happen to him but he got the default page in the old style. i don't know if there is a way to get the old style permanently but I know if anybody can it will be you and Hiroto.

I was having trouble with blank pages so I added the Puffin Web Browser app and no blank pages.

I can't see my screenshot from a couple of days ago so I'll add another one.

I think you got this one turned around. Twas I that used the URL and received a blank page for quite some time - then magically fixed itself, glitch #???

I guess el page-o blank-o is not unique to my experience. I am in good company now
