Q: IOS 8 won't sync music with itunes

After updating to IOS 8 on my Iphone 5, all of my music was removed.  I tried resyncing it with Itunes - however once completed no new music has gone across.

Anyone know how to fix this??

iPhone 5, iOS 8

I've also sent in feedback along the same lines - have the same issue as you: syncing completely shafted, and now over 20Gb "Other" to compound the problem. It really is an absolute disgrace - have done lots of searching for solutions. Seems a few people find success, most don't. Tried pretty much every combination of checking and unchecking options for syncing, playlists, Match, Cloud settings - everything. Still the same end result. Two complete restores as well.

Absolutely amazed at this. How did they manage to screw up simple syncing?

Maybe the syncing isn't screwed, maybe it's a hardware problem? Could it be a faulty flash drive? I don't know, just guessing. The thing is: most people seem to have no problem at all with syncing.

I don't think it's hardware, since it started with the newest OS (though there were a few reports previously). I doubt my family's iPhone 4Ss all went bad at the exact same time.

Yeah, I'm afraid you're right. Had some hick ups with iOS on my 5S too. But then why is it just a small group of people having this problem?

Unfortunetly my fix posted did not last. Although I did sync several times, and all was fine, I plugged in my phone last night. When I looked at it this morning, iTunes was still stuck on step 4 of 4, and the iPhone had a message that said "this accessory may not be supported" with an ok button. When I stopped the sync in iTunes and clicked ok on the iPhone, it skipped every song that was personally ripped, and all the cover art for those songs was replaced by generic text art.

Time to file another report with Apple.

Maybe I'm on to something. When I connect the iPhone, I see some movies under the tab Movies, grayed out, because I don't want movies on my iPhone. But I couldn't find these movies in my iTunes-library. Strange. So I did a Spotlight search for these titels. I found them, but in the wrong place. The Movies folder isn't stored in the iTunes Media folder, but in the Music Folder. Wrong. This folder should be directly in the iTunes Media folder, I think. Altough I don't sync movies, I think this could seriously disturb syncing, especially if Wifi sync, iTunes Match or iCloud back up is checked. Anyone?Schermafbeelding 2014-09-30 om 15.02.14.png

Emptied the Movies folder. Placed in the right folder (directly into iTunes Media). Did sort of a reset in iTunes ('Organize Lilbrary' it probably is called in English) and the Movies folder was gone, surprisingly. Imported an new (ripped) movie, and it was placed in the folder iTunes Media >Home video. Now the movie is not greyed out anymore in iTunes. So there really was something wrong. But is this the root of the problem?

I wonder if that has something to do with anything too. I mentioned earlier that I do not sync movies to my iPhone. I do not have any movies or TV shows in iTunes at all. There are absolutely no videos on the device when I look in the Videos app. But when I go to General>About it says I have 2 videos on the device.

I'll say it again at the risk of annoying people. PLEASE report this issue to Apple so they will look into it and can fix it: https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

Your suggestions are useless to this problem.

I am running the latest OS X on a brand new Mac. The latest version of iTunes, and I have a brand new iPhone 6 running the latest update of iOS8. In summary, I am running in an entirely Apple-developed ecosystem.

And after multiple restores, I CAN STILL NOT GET MY MUSIC ON MY PHONE.

This is a major product failure. It is a known issue affecting many users of the new iOS. This product and these operating systems should not have been launched. They were not ready. You have ****** off a lot of customers and shareholders. This is not why we pay extra money for the Apple experience. Products are supposed to work, elegantly and simply, right out of the box.

In no way is this the case with iPhone 6 and iOS8.

I need a FIX to this problem.

Well, there you go. You don't have movies on your device, you think, and yet there are two movies. If they are in the wrong folder, it can cause serious problems. The few times I've had problems with iTunes, it always was because the music library was somehow corrupted. If a folder that is only designed to contain music-files contains movie-files, it can disrupt any proces it is part of. My suggestion: go to you Music folder and check if there is a folder that doesn't belong there.

That is really disappointing. Greg Bastug1. I have just got your fix to work with everything synced. Let's hope there is a proper ios / iTunes fix soon and before it goes wrong again. I don't think my patience will wear another restore to address it. And yes I have sent several reports to apple. Oh and thanks for the fix, even if it is short term.

Yes, bummed that it happened again. I've created a new iTunes Library, re-added my music, and am seeing if that improves the stability of the sync at all.

Might be good if everyone who's having this issue posts the following: I'll start

    Phone: iPhone 6

    Memory: 128gb

    iOS: 8.02

OS: Yosemite Beta 3 or Mavericks 10.9.4

    Computer: iMac (27-inch, Mid 2010) 2.93 GHz Intel Core i7 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3

iTunes: iTunes 12 or iTunes 11.4

Connection Method: Apple Lightning Cable > Apple Keyboard or iMac directly

Sync Method: Auto, Selected Artists or Albums

Music Collection: 95% iTunes ripped AIFF format; 5% iTunes Store AAC purchases

Automatically Sync this Phone when Connection: Yes

    Wifi Sync: Off

Sync only Checked Songs of Videos: Yes

Manually Manage Music and Videos: No

iTunes Match: Off on iPhone and Computer

iTunes Convert Higher Bit Rate Songs: Yes, 256

Have you found a permanent fix (if yes, describe): No

This popped up again as I'm syncing...makes no sense as it's all Apple - iPhone, cable, and computer

I had same problem.  In iTunes, Go to your device menu when connected to iTunes. Click on the music tab (menu item). Click the radio button to Sync Entire Music Library.  Then press Sync.

    This worked for me.

I think the issue is many people were already doing this, and something broke for some of us...many variations of syncing seems to have been tried.

I'm almost done re-syncing from a new iTunes library - I've been doing batches of albums, and testing playback in between syncs...I don't consider it fixed yet, but so far, the music is there...I would need to do several dozen syncs with perfect stability for me to consider it fixed...
