Sep 30, 2014 1:58 PM in response to zee28by KiltedTim,The notifications are a security measure meant to notify you that someone has accessed your iCloud account and is using it to track the location of your device. If that's you trying to find it, great. It should be that big a deal. If you are using it to track someone else and don't want them to know, you may want to consult a lawyer.

Sep 30, 2014 2:05 PM in response to KiltedTimby zee28,Really? "Get a lawyer" is your solution to my not wanting my 12 yr old daughter to know I'm using find my iPhone to see if she is where she is supposed to be?

Sep 30, 2014 2:09 PM in response to zee28by ChrisJ4203,★HelpfulThis notification occurs every time you log into Find My iPhone on the iPhone if you log out of it before you use it again. Find My iPhone will automatically log out each time you leave it if you do not have a passcode on your device. If you have a passcode on the phone and the log into Find My iPhone, it will only notify you that time. It will remain logged into Find My iPhone and you will not receive another email unless you log in from another device. If you do a search of the forum, you will find a rather lengthy recent discussion about this same issue and may find additional answers to your question.

Sep 30, 2014 2:16 PM in response to zee28by KiltedTim,No. Get a lawyer is my solution to your wanting to track a phone that doesn't belong to you. If your daughter is 12, then it's legally yours. If you don't want her to KNOW that you're tracking her, and you don't trust her enough not to disallow you from locating her using Find my Friends, then lock down her phone with YOUR iCloud account instead of hers. You can set up multiple iCloud accounts on the phone. Only one of them can be used for Find my iPhone, however.

Oct 5, 2014 9:29 AM in response to KiltedTimby jeffstern5,This isn't a very helpful response, to say the least. How people deal with their kids is not related to this question and is not as simplistic as this response indicates it to be. I know a lot of parents who use this. It's an alternative to calling or texting just to get some re-assurance, when needed.
If Apple thinks this email is a good idea for telling people that someone has accessed your iCloud account, that's really silly. If someone is that concerned, use a fancy password. And it hadn't been working until the recent update.

Oct 5, 2014 12:42 PM in response to jeffstern5by ChrisJ4203,As indicated in my earlier post, this is a new security measure. There are ways to avoid it, and I addressed them as well. If you believe that it is silly, you might want to let Apple know about that, and that is done on their feedback page, HERE, and then click on the appropriate link.

Oct 5, 2014 12:57 PM in response to jeffstern5by KiltedTim,An Apple ID is intended to be personal. It is not intended to be used as a method for you to track your children. Most carriers offer services that will do that. Contact yours and find out how much it costs if you don't like the fact that your children are being notified that you don't trust them every time you try to look up their location.

I'm guessing you don't have children older than about 7, if any. It's not a matter of trust but of concern. And it's not up to Apple to decide what good or bad parenting is. They should make notification an option. I've had to occasionally find my iphone or iPad. I find the email an annoyance. In any case, if you can't be helpful and non-personal, best not to reply at all.

Oct 5, 2014 2:20 PM in response to zee28by janicefromsydney,Hi, I would just like to add that this was a very good question Zee28! I have been onto Apple Support about same thing. They tell me that since photos were recently stolen they have changed things and you always receive an email notification now! Annoying. Previously, if you did not 'play a sound' when locating..say.. at home under a pillow, or concern re your 12 y o, you didn't receive an email. Now you receive email for just using the App. I noticed instead of just helping you like most people do, you got a personal serve, which I feel was most unfair!I I wrote to Apple and submitted my annoyance with the email, but probably won't do much. If anyone finds a way it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Oct 5, 2014 2:25 PM in response to jeffstern5by FelipeV,As Find my Phone is not meant to be used in the way you want to use it, try using Find my Friends to keep tabs on your child. In any case, email notifications are not going away soon, as they were just recently implemented.
