Q: Allow apps from lock screen?

Hi - I have iPhone 5S, running iOS 8 (I'll do the latest update soon). I really enjoy using the "Hey Siri" feature, as I text my husband (voice only!) most days during my commute home from work. My question - which I've Googled, to no avail - is, is there a way (without jailbreaking my phone) to allow certain apps from the lock screen? In other words, I know that I can just say, "Hey Siri, send a text to my husband," & she'll do it without asking for my code or fingerprint. But if I say, "Hey Siri, open my Waze app," she'll ask for my code or fingerprint, neither of which I want to input while driving. Does anybody know a way to make this happen? Thanks!

-Alicia

Short of removing the passcode entirely, no. There's no way to do that.

Darn it! :-( Thanks for the reply. Maybe Apple will include this in a future update. I think it would be pretty useful!

The app Launcher did allow for this from the Notifications screen (not the lock screen like you are asking). However, Apple removed the app from the App Store due to inappropriate use of widgets. Maybe something in the future.

Thanks, anypats. I'm not that technologically advanced, LOL, so I don't really know what a widget is or how to use one properly or improperly. But I do think that the owner of the phone having the ability to say what apps can & can't be activated from the lock screen using "Hey Siri" would be a great feature to have. Fingers crossed!

A friend of mine just suggested something. It's still not quite what I want, but it'll do until Apple does what I want, LOL. He suggested just leaving the phone on, unlocked, while driving. It's plugged in, so the battery won't die, & I don't have to worry about putting in a code or anything. I just don't like wasting energy. But for now, if I want to open apps while driving, using "Hey Siri", this is the only way.

Thanks for posting this question as I was unable to find any results on Google as well.

This would be a super useful feature for motorcycles because when I ride, my phone is in my jacket pocket. The only thing I'm able to do is to use Siri for voice recognition and tell Siri to do certain things such as call who and text who, etc. There's no way for me to open up Waze or Google Maps other than unlocking the phone - (which no way in **** I'm doing that while I'm riding, especially when there are cars around me). Currently I can tell Siri to give me directions, but that uses Apple Maps and we all know how 'well' that works..

Quite well, actually. When was the last time you tried using Apple Maps?

Sorry for not making myself clear. What I meant to say in 'well' was that it lacks certain functionalities that would work better for me on a motorcycle. For example, Waze utilizes user feedback on the road, so I can be aware of a pot hole or a police report.

That is a useful feature of Waze. Sadly, I find it a bit untrustworthy for directions.

Haha, that's true. Sometimes Waze also crashes when navigating around the map.. I will give Apple Maps another shot again, thanks for the suggestion!

I use Waze when I don't need to navigate, for example, the thousand mile trips to my family vacation house. I know the route but I like to keep an eye on things like accidents and cops (yeah, I drive too fast). But I'm more inclined to use Apple maps for actual navigation. It has been, for me, more reliable of late and pronounces street names more accurately.

Both Waze and Google Maps have some features I'd love to see in Apple Maps (Waze's ability to look at your calendar, the little traffic jam thermometer, Google's dynamic rerouting seems better).
