Oct 2, 2014 8:55 AM in response to emilyjpottsby AmishCake,Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)

Jan 27, 2015 11:51 AM in response to razmee209by Peter Stolle,This does not work on my 5S. The waste basket disappears from the bottom and the only option is at the top to "delete all".

Jan 27, 2015 12:04 PM in response to AmishCakeby Peter Stolle,Tried this and it worked. Only problem; it only works for a little while. After deleting several pages of texts, I reached a point where the waste basket disappeared again and the only option was "delete all" again. Resetting the phone again gave the same result again and again after many deleted texts the waste basket disappeared again. This is very cumbersome and time consuming.
