Q: Cannot download oxford dictionary on iPad

In fact now my ios8 Keynote dictionary is now messed up too.

It continuesly is trying to change my words into foreign words now. 

Hold the globe key to make you are using the right keyboard.  The reference dictionaries have nothing to do with autocorrect.

Your solution did not work for me. I am completely stuck and cannot use anymore the English and French dictionary since I have updated to iOS8

Could someone at Apple do something about it? I need it for work!!!! PLEASE! I WOULD PREFER TO PAY FOR AN UPDATE BETTER THAN TO GET SOMETHING FOR FREE THAT SPOIL MY WORKFLOW.

Go to iTunes on you computer (not iPad). Download iBooks app from iTunes store. Then connect your iPad to your computer and sync.

I have checked that but iBooks is already installed and I cannot download it again as it is already in my iTunes apps as week as on my iPad...

It should not be a problem. Just connect your iPad to the computer and do "sync". After that eject iPad, open iBooks, select a word, "define", "manage" — and wait. The blue circles schould get busy.

here is a more detailed instruction from another discussion on this problem:

1. Open itunes.

2. Choose library, apps and list.

3. Right click iBooks in the list and choose "Show in Itunes Store."

4. Once your on the iBooks Itunes Store page, choose "update."

5. After the iBooks update downloads, connect iPad to computer, make sure iBooks on the iPad is closed, and click choose, File, devices, sync iPad.

6.  After sync completes, eject iPad.

7. Open iBooks on iPad, highlight a word, click define, manage and previous dictionaries should be back and functional.

Ii think, you can also delete iBooks app from the iTunes on your computer, then download it again, and then sync with your iPad. THE POINT IS TO SYNC.

Did not work! iBooks does not synchronise as it is already on the iPad. I wish I could remove it from the iPad first. I have been following all the above steps.

But did the iTunes on your computer show that it is performing a sync? The iBooks app on my iPad was updated, but I did not have iBooks on iTunes on my PC.  I downloaded it, then just connected my iPad to the computer and did sync. It worked. Have you waited for a while after opening iBooks->define->manage?

It does work. You have to synchronize, it doesn't matter if iBooks is on the iPad already. Just download it to your computer iTunes, and if it is there already, you can delete it and reinstall it on the computer iTunes. Then you just go to files>devices>Synch iPad. Hope it works.

O yes, finally! That worked for me, too. Syncing alone did not help, but with the following steps it worked for me:

1. Open iTunes, connect iPad and synchronize it.
2. In iTunes go to the list of installed apps (not the app store) and delete the iBooks app (right-click).
3. Find the iBooks app in the app store and download it.
4. Synchronize again. While synchronizing, I did not see the iBooks app being copied in the progress display, but all ebooks where copied to the iPad again.
