Q: keep a .doc a .doc

is it possible to maintain a MS word file when opening it in Pages as .doc instead of automatically converting it to .pages?

    Pages is not Word it merely opens and converts Word files to .pages documents, then you have to export the file back to Word. Not perfectly in either direction.

     

    If you want Word, use Word or a Word clone like LibreOffice [free].
