Q: External monitor stopped working after 10.9.2 update installation

I've been using a Dell U2712H display for about a year with a mini-display port to display port cable.

However, after installing the 10.9.2 update, the monitor is going into sleep mode when connected to the MacBook Pro (as it doesn't think it's getting a signal), even though the laptop thinks it's correctly connected. (If I turn the monitor off, the menu bar, etc. revert to the MBP screen.)

About the only related Mavericks default I've changed is to disable the "Displays have seperate Spaces" option within Mission Control, although I've tried re-enabling this and logging off/on again to no avail.

I've also tried resetting the NVRAM and the SMC, neither of which appear to have made any difference.

I was never able to resolve my issue with the displayport, but I ended up getting an hdmi to dvi cable for my Dell monitor and everything is working well now.  Apple just seems to hate the displayport.

Tangentially I don't know if this helps anyone, but all my problems with external monitors getting dropped or not working were all related to a bad external USB harddrive. It somehow was causing the bus to just do loppy things. Replaced the external harddrive and all my problems went away.

I had this same issue with AOC USB screen e1649Fwu then I downloaded Displaylink v2.2 and I got my screen running again. Hope it works for other monitors!

Hi, I have just bought a q2963pm AOC and running OSX 10.9.4. Connected through HDMI cable, the font is very blurry. Also tried running SwitchResX  but not improvement. Bought a DP to MINI DP cable, but I can't get this to work either.

Have you got any ideas what I can try? Thnx

    Guys,

Had similar problems where, after upgrading to Maverick, my external monitor and projector did not work anymore.

I was using a mini display port adapter for VGA of a third party that works perfectly fine on Mountain Lion.

Today I tested it with an official apple cable, and guess what, it works with Maverick!

Took me weeks to figure this out, so I will not be cheap anymore...

So for everyone who uses third party non-apple cables, please use an official apple cable because Mavericks seems to be much more picky than Mountain Lion. It is at least the case for the Mini display adapter port to VGA cable.

    Greetz,

    Hanko.

It worked before. Apple broke it with a system update (again with Yosemite) they should fix it. But it seems Apple want to sell their own expensive cables and monitors and disqualifies third party cables with an OS update.

There is another discussion that is mainly about mirroring/extended desktop not working via Airplay with some iMacs. i have no non-Apple cables - the IMac and AppleTV are on the same home network. I can play movies on the ATV via iTunes on the iMac but cannot use the ATV for anything else. Airplay (video) works perfectly on a Macbook Pro on the same network. It is a bug with Yosemite that only affects some iMacs.
