Q: Iphone 6 ring/silent switch not working

The ring/silent switch on the left side of my iphone 6 is stuck in silent mode and when I try to switch it into ring mode it doesn't stick and just springs back down. Anyone else having this issue?

iPhone 6, iOS 8

Had the same exact issue with my preordered iPhone 6 that I opened a couple days ago. Took it to the Apple store to swap for a replacement and works just as it should.

ok just return it to APPLE STORE they will change it because of warranty, no need any more to put post like this

its a hardware problem not software, the BUTTON SILENT should be changed.

I am having the same exact issue with mine.  I switched it to silent and since then when I try to switch it back it springs back into silent mode with no indication on the screen that it was ever out of silent mode as in previous models.  Arg.

    I had the same issue.

The switch flipped solidly to the mute position, but that was the end of that. Now it only springs (with force) into the un-mute position, but it springs right back as soon as you let go of the button.

Also, I have bright areas along the edges of the top and top right and left of the screen. Not sure if that's related.

Apple store has no appointments until next week, so I'm taking it back to Best Buy, where I purchased it yesterday.

Last Saturday it spread to other issues.  I couldn't "slide to open" on the bottom of the home screen.  While I had a "genius" appt for the coming Monday (had to book 4 days ahead) I went in on Saturday.  It seems they take walk ins, but i had to wait over an hour.  Met with the genius and less than ten minutes later had a new phone.  What I found interesting was that all the side buttons on the new phone were significantly more responsive than they had been on the prior one.  I may be totally off base, but that made me thing that while the buttons themselves are mechanical, they may simply access a bitt of mutual software where the glitch is located...  Anyways the new one is great.  It's frustrating to get something new that's defective and then have to jump through hoops to simply get it replaced.  I understand the genius concept, but a new product that simply and obviously defective should be expedited.

Same issue....ordered from from T-Mobile...Iphone 6.  Everything seemed perfect except Silent switch won't come out of silent...just slides back to silent.  T-Mobile had me send phone back and allowed me to pay for another one (which I paid 100% up front now x 2 and don't have a phone to use)...will credit me back for 1 of them....someday when they get original phone back.

Same issue here.  Ordered from Sprint, Iphone 6 space gray, 64GB.  Picked up last night, got home to set everything up and wondered why it only vibrated on incoming calls.  First thing I checked was the switch and it was not set to silent and ringer volumes were at max.  Went from silent to ring and it would occasionally work but then revert back to silent.  You can tell it engages to silent with a click but not so much when you try to engage the ringer.  Odd thing is that this morning it has stayed in ringer mode but it seems that it is not fully locked into it and any bump will put it back into silent mode.  Will be going to the Sprint store to see what can be done.  Only Apple store is 2-3 hours away.  I will update later.

I got the same problem, and my iphone is an iPhone6 128GB space grey factory unlocked &  barely 4 days old.

I put in on mute for a meeting, then I tried to un-mute it, but the button bounces right back to mute.

    Really apple?

The quality of this build is far from the 4, or 5, the casing is much lighter (fragile), & the buttons fail with normal use, what a crap!!!

There is no apple store where I am, How am I supposed to get it replaced?

    Hi,

I am lucky enough to live near an Apple Store, so I made a Genius Bar appointment. The genius saw the problem and swapped out the whole phone immediately. I asked him if he'd seem many of this problem. He said no, but he has seen some front-facing camera misalignments. I know this isn't a solution for everybody, but you might give it a try if possible. Good luck.

    -Eric

I have exact the same problem with the iPhone 6 plus 64gb.

Just got the phone 4 days ago from Belsimpel.nl

It doesn't stay in silence mode and vibrates when it automaticly switches between silent and normal mode.

When i lightly tap on the silent mode button in silent mode it switches on and of and vibrates.

Same. How annoying. All the joy and excitement of opening and setting up new iPhone 6 gone. Ruined. :-(

Same problem here with a Verizon iPhone 6, but with a twist.  The day I received the phone the ring/silent switch would not stay in the up/ring position at all, silent mode only.  The next day it would stay in the up position, but no click.  The next day again it started clicking into the up position, but the click was faint and not at all like the nice solid click into the down/silent position. Very strange it's getting better with a few days of use.

No matter, it's not 100% and Verizon is sending me a new phone to replace.
