Q: Did kotoeri changed with Maverick?

I installed Maverick this morning, and what was my surprise when I tried to use Kotoeri on my french keyboad (then Azerty)...

Until Mountain Lion, when i was using french language source, my keyboard was on the Azerty mode, and when using Kotoeri, my keyboard was converting to a JIS Keyboard (Japanese Qwerty).
But now, Kotoeri is using the Azerty mode, even when I use a JIS Blutooth Apple Keyboard.

The only trick to use the Qwerty mode for Kotoeri is to drag a US keyboard in the language source, then alternate between french language source for french, then US keyboard=>Kotoeri to use the Qwerty mode in japanese...

To be clear:
Until Mountain Lion:

French language source= Azerty
Kotoeri Japanese language source= Qwerty

With Maverick:
French language source= Azerty
Kotoeri Japanese language source= The same language source as the previously used.

So, the question is: Why did you do that?
It's just a **** to use this! All the people using japanese language I know are naturelly using the Qwerty mode for Kotoeri, and some japanese characters are not included in the Azerty mode (such as "~").

No, it is not really fixed with 10.9.1.

It is just set to qwerty for everyone. And I'm really not happy with that.

I'm French and using a physical Azerty Apple Keyboard. And now, when I chose Kotoeri it switch to qwerty. No way to select azerty as an imput method for kotoeri.

You can select a French keyboard (azerty) in the Kotoeri Preferences – Préférences Systeme > Clavier > Méthode de saisie, select Kotoeri, scroll down in the right hand pane (look for 'Disposition Romanji').

Thank you phiw13.2! The Google IME suggested on page 4 is nice too, but I was sure there was a way to activate the AZERTY layout for Kotoeri in Maverick too! I will just detail the interface below.

The scroll down part is the key. By default Mavericks hides the scrolling bar when a page is static, and the last item "Input method / Méthode de saisie : Romaji" just fits in the frame (not overlapped by the bottom frame border) so it looks like there is nothing else below. Now if you just scroll down you will see the missing two-thirds of the settings. After "Disposition Romaji :" choose the keyboard you prefer for kotoeri input.kotoeri-azerty-settings.png

If you are afraid to miss something like this next time, you can go to System Preferences > General > Show scroll bars: select Always

That said, I guess I will try Google IME again if the default IME does not remember my preferences well enough. But it is always good to be able to input something that simple without downloading anything by yourself.

Yes seems I do too when writing Finnish or Swedish I also try Ainu on Kotoeri Aynu kan be written in Roman Katakana and Cyrilic but Kotoeri only allow Keyboard writing Roman but covert to Katakana because they have a smaller version of some Katakana ,try writing Aynu itah an ro let us use Aynu language in Aynu and you get アイヌ イタㇵ アン ロ アイヌ イタㇰ アン ロ notice the small ha (Sakhalin / Qarahto Aynu and ka  Mosir /Hoqqaido Aynu.

There are no other settings dictionary grammar and spell checker and little instructions and info as to -date 24/05/2016 El Qapitano OSX 10.10 they have a seperate system for Aynu and less info seems that Aynu support might be took out and just use roman ,because roman Aynu is becoming more popular and ordinary Katakana just does not represent Aynu Roman can but I would rather Aynu invent a script based on Aynu motifs Koto eri for Japanese should also have auto furigana because first I write on keyboard hiragana and it is converted to Kanji so why not have it placed on top of the kanji so when you write to someone who is not native they can read the kanji and even have a word translated in any language you like to aid reading. I wrote all this many years but no reply Bi lingual user interface Aynu and Japanese with Furigana user interface and you can have any other combination like Google translate and if you can not read it a yellow Help Tag pops up and translate the word like the pair of glasses    Show reading list  translated Näyttää looqeminen lista  Why does Apple developers do not help users they pay for computers.
