Q: iPhone 6-Darkish band and off yellow color top of screen on white backgrounds.

I'm wandering if anyone is experiencing the following concern that I have? I own the iPhone 6 Silver/White with 16GB mem.

Across the top of the screen on white backgrounds there seems to be a dark shadow cast from the edge. The dark shadowing is most pronounced towards the upper right corner of the screen, slightly in the bottom left (when the phone is held normal... Home button on the bottom (AKA touch ID), volume rocker on the left side).

In the first image you will observe the the upper right corner of the phone is located to the top-left of the image near "21 SEP-Sunday."

In the second image you will observe that I have rotated the screen/phone 180 degrees. The upper right corner of the phone will be in the bottom right of the image. You'll also notice that there is a dark band that runs across the top of the screen, slightly on the bottom.

I noticed this on some of the iPhone 6s at my local Apple store as well. It seemed most common with the White/Gold-silver models. The Black/Space Grays mostly had pristine screens when I compared mine next to them. I was going to show an Apple rep, but there were, no kidding, hundreds of folks waiting in two lines for an iPhone 6. So I didn't bother. I called Apple for a replacement, but they said I would need to send them the phone back first and they do not offer collateral and allowing me to keep the phone until a replacement arrives. That's bogus :-(

I have noticed I can see a bigger difference when they are on auto brightness, which is what I keep my phone on all the time.

Just in case you're not aware, when auto-brightness is turned on you can still adjust the brightness slider.  It acts as an "offset" so the brightness will still change along with ambient light levels but can be adjusted for people who like their screen generally lighter or darker. Perhaps that's the reason why you're seeing a difference between the two when they're both on auto?

Just went to my local apple store today. I was going to replace my iphone 6 which has the exact same problem with you guys. When I got to the store and checked other phones that they put on display, THEY ARE ALL HAVE A DARK SHADOW ON THE TOP OF THE SCREEN. That include iphone 6, iphone 6 plus and even iphone 5s. The funniest thing is that I talked to a apple rep, and he showed me his phone. His phone also has it and he said he didn't notice it. Then I just went home. I know even if I replace it, it is gonna has the same problem. I know it is not a big deal but it really bothers me when I read something in a white background.

UPDATE: I just got my 3rd iPhone 6 replacement on Tuesday and it looks good so far. The Genius in the store brought out 5 smaller white boxes to have me take my pick. It took two boxes being opened and reviewing the phone on the start up screen, before I selected this one.

If I was really nit-picky, I'd say there is a very very slight almost unnoticeable shadow just behind the battery % area. The rest of the screen looks good. The other interesting thing I noticed is that in the Apple as well as the Verizon store, you aren't able to pick up the phones as they are mounted and locked down to the table. What's up with that? Like they don't want you to feel them in your hand or tilt them to view the screen. Anyone else notice that?

Exact same thing happened to me last night!

I went to the apple store and noticed all of the iPhone are like this.

The Genius said "its just the way the LCD is made". He said there was no issue with the phone.

I really like the ios platform, but its quality is getting worse and worse. I remember when i bought my iPad last year, I had to replace it for  a 4 times to get a non-defective one. I don't know what you guys are going to do with it. I am gonna return it and wait for a bit to see if they would fix or not. I just don't want to spend a 1000 dollar on a defective device.

I am trying to ignore it for now, I really love the phone so im not going to return it just yet.

Im actually starting to question my sanity because my friends have screens like this on their 6's and they refuse to see it LOL

I think most people don't even notice it. Few days ago, I showed my phone to my friends and pointing out this screen problem. After they knew it, they are still going to buy one. This is the power of iPhone. LOL . I will wait few more days to see if I can ignore it.

    Hi,

my iPhone 6 64GB Space Grey has the same "darkish band"...if I hold the iPhone in the normal position, then I see something like a small light dark shadow behind the battery symbol. If I use it in landscape mode, i.e. using the calendar, then I notice a light yellow "band" at the left side (which normally is the top).

I had a lot of trouble last year with my iPad Air, changed it twice and the third device is still not perfect. I kept it because I was tired of changing and changing and changing.

Now I'm thinking about if I should try to change or simply live with the small yellow thing. My husband even does not notice it at all....but it is there (I'm not crazy :-))) I'm afraid of getting a device which is even worse or which has other problems (dead pixels, dust,..).

My question: those of you which has this darkish shadow, are you keeping the device? Or do you try to chance it as long as you get a perfect device?

P.S. sorry for my English...I'm not a native speaker ;-)

Since every iPhone 6 is like this, swapping it won't make a difference. We just need to live with it just like 99% of iphone 6 users are.

Do you think so many users do have this problem? I'm not quite sure. I've asked in a German forum an there were not so much people who replied thet the have the same problem. My husband's iPhone 6 is 100% white without any shadows and things like this...maybe therefore I'm so dissapointed :-(

Here in america, I still havnt found an iPhone 6 without it. Even YouTube videos of reviews have it if you look closely.

I wish I could get a replacement but Apple geniuses refuse to accept this defect. I am going for the second time later, hopefully they can understand what i am talking about.

My iPhone 6 has this shadow also, most prominent in the upper right corner and on lower brightness settings. Sometimes almost looks slightly yellow but most of the time just darker and not yellow. The phone is great otherwise and I decided not to return it as I returned 3 iPad Airs before getting a screen I was happy with and don't want to go through that again especially with a phone and contract. I also know that any genius who looks at it won't see it as a defect even though it would have still been replaced while I was in the 14 day return period. I'm trying to ignore it but my eyes are always drawn to that corner. The funny thing is that it varies in intensity to the point at times I can hardly see it and other times it is clearly there. I have looked at several iPhone -6 in the Apple store and some don't have this shadow. They are always set at full brightness and have been on all day so maybe that makes a difference. I love the new phone and iOS and wish I could stop looking at that corner.

I also got the bad OOBE when received my new iPhone6 64G Gold on 10/9. It's really sad to saw this defect on my first iPhone. It's obvious dark area in right/top of the LCD. I had capture the compare photo with my hTC M7. Hope engineering team can seriously to figure out what happen and improvement it soon although I had decide to return it back and waiting for it be capture and fixed.
