Q: Can one limit updating of shared Photostreams to when the phone is connected to computer?

My mum has a 5S with iOS 8 which is connected to a shared photo stream where I post photos and videos of our family. My mum's contract has a 1GB limit and she noticed this month that she passed that limit. I think this is because her phone updates the shared photo stream over the cellular network (she doesn't have a wifi network at home). Is there a setting in iOS 8 to limit such updating to when the phone is connected to her computer?

Many TIA

Philip

    Hello pullman,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

I understand from your post that you want to disable the cellular data connection with Photos as to avoid overages.  To do this, go to Settings > Cellular, and turn photos off.

Thanks for the reply Alex, however that is not what I meant, see the last sentence of my question.

Specifically, I am wondering of there is a setting to have the iphone update the shared photo stream only when it is connected to the computer (as I also mentioned, my mum does not have a wifi network at home because her computer's internet connection is a mobile internet dongle). So, basically, I want to use the computer's internet connection for the updates, not the phone's.

    Thanks for any insight

    Philip

    Hello pullman,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

Photo Stream on an iOS device does require that device be connected to Wi-Fi in order to upload the photos.  It cannot bypass this feature and use the computer's network instead.

    Take care,

    Alex H.
