Oct 7, 2014 9:10 AM in response to Philip Vitekby Bob Timmons,★HelpfulThis is a common bug that has continued with Mavericks from earlier operating systems.
Please check this Apple support document to see if that might provide some help.
AirPort base station not seen or "An unexpected error occurred" appears in AirPort Utility 6.3
Another option.....if you have an iPad or iPhone handy......is to use that device to set up the AirPort Express devices, which often works better than AirPort Utility on a Mac.

Oct 7, 2014 10:33 AM in response to Bob Timmonsby Philip Vitek,Bob - Thanks for the reply. I had already seen the cited document and tried that solution. It might work for Lion or Mountain Lion but not Mavericks. Just now solved problem with older MacBook Air running 10.6.8 and older Airport Utility. Piece of Cake, as opposed to current Airport Utility which is a POS, IMHO. Thanks again. Phil

Oct 7, 2014 2:39 PM in response to Philip Vitekby Bga526,I get the same response. I have osx10.8.5 and airport utility 6.3.1. I have had airport express a1392 extended to time capsule for playing speakers for about a year and today noticed not working. All the other airplay speakers work fine so I don't think it is iTunes. I have not changed anything. I have reset and reset to factory with same response. i have tried IPAD ios7.1.2 with airport1.3.4 which never recognizes the airport express. I am in link local so above document noted. Any ideas would be appreciated

Oct 18, 2014 6:51 AM in response to Bob Timmonsby Delphi8000,Bob, it seems to me you are very knowledgeable on setting up Airports; hence, may I ask you 2 questions?
1. Airport Express configuration failure on Yosemite
2. Setting up a A1088 Airport Express on Yosemite
Thank you in advance!

Oct 20, 2014 7:44 AM in response to Bob Timmonsby lucillablu,Thank you BOb
after having reset the station several times and not being able to have the express join the existing network, I tried with my iphone and it worked. I would never have thought of this solution. Thank you very much!
