Jul 12, 2014 6:07 PM in response to Philip Buchananby Dennis L Jacob,I won't know for a few days, but apple technical support just had me do the hibernate mode 0 (zero) as a fix for my two TBDisplay problem with waking up from sleep mode. He didn't recommend that I change the setting for use when I'm on battery power. Though it sounds like the issue is different if you are on battery and still connected and using external displays. I normally would not use that mode of operation. We will see if this fixes the problem. But Apple should fix this problem instead of doing this work around plan.

Jul 13, 2014 2:06 AM in response to GooberGrape70by Slinky09,I thought I'd solved the problem with my TD not waking up on my new MacBook Air. Then Apple recommended I update Mavericks, promising it "Improves the reliability of wake from sleep".
Guess what, the problem is back. Grrrr Apple why won't you fix this!

Jul 13, 2014 9:26 AM in response to Slinky09by Dennis L Jacob,So far with the hibernate mode set to zero, my 2 TBDs are waking up. But this is day one, so I will need a few days before I'll say this issue has been "worked around" by Apple Support.

Jul 16, 2014 6:18 PM in response to Dennis L Jacobby Dennis L Jacob,Well I spoke too soon. I'm still having wake up problems with my two TBD. One wakes up, the other doesn't. I have to unplug the 2nd TBD from the first and plug it back in to work. The latest apple support person had me uncheck the "automatic brightness" setting on both displays. He also asked me to make sure that both display's brightness was not near full bright. Mine are set at about 2/3rds brightness. We will see if this fixes the issue. If no,t the tech said the next step was to reinstall OSX Mavericks. I asked if the apple engineers were working on this issue. The reply was this is a known problem and he assumes the engineers are working on the problem. Let's hope.

Jul 19, 2014 3:01 AM in response to Dennis L Jacobby Adrianoxx,Hi,
I have the same problem, my thunderbolt Display 27" connected ta a mac mini shuts off by itself.
I have moved the display on various mac but the problem remains, I brought the monitor to the apple store, they were kept under observation for two days the monitor and they said that the monitor is ok, but the problem remains. They now want that I bring the monitor to them with the mac mini so they test it on my mac mini. They had told me that the problem would be solved with the update to 10.9.4 macosx but it did not happen.

Jul 20, 2014 10:33 AM in response to Adrianoxxby Dennis L Jacob,So after my Apple tech told me to re-install Mavericks, my two TBD are waking up when I click with my bluetooth magic mouse. It has been two days so far. Too short to presume the problem is fixed. To date I've done the hibernate mode change to zero, I've turned off automatic brightness control on both monitors. I've made sure that my brightness level is less than maximum. And I've re-installed Mavericks. Hopefully this last change will last longer than the previous change that lasted only two days.

Jul 26, 2014 10:37 AM in response to Dennis L Jacobby Dennis L Jacob,My TBD is still not always waking. So the steps Apple support has asked me to do haven't worked either. The display waking up is hit and miss. Sometimes it wakes up and others not. But at least I don't have to reboot to get the second display to wake up. I just need to pull the TBD cable and plug it back in. This is a real concern. Is this a TBD problem or a computer problem or software or hardware? I mean these displays are a thousand bucks. And any USB hard drive you plug into them gets "ejected" every time the TBD doesn't wake up. I don't know what happens with a device or devices that would be plugged into the TBD port on the TBD if those devices would be ejected as well. I don't want to find out the hard way. What's next? Apple support hasn't asked me to do anything with my TBD's.

Jul 28, 2014 8:22 PM in response to GooberGrape70by z06gal,I have had this issue since ML on both a Mac Mini and now a nMP and it continues with Yosemite. I just won't use sleep mode until Apple fixes it. I have tried everything I have found in this thread as well as others all to no avail.

Aug 21, 2014 9:48 AM in response to GooberGrape70by gunst,I too am having this issue, though I notice it happens most frequently when the MacBook Pro goes to sleep and I am running a machine in VMWare Fusion. Do any of you experience this as well?

Sep 5, 2014 1:17 PM in response to GooberGrape70by Mike Gillespie,Okay - so I have no idea if this is helpful or not but having been through this and several other threads, trying many if not all of the various suggested fixes and work arounds, I finally tried turning off the auto adjust brightness setting...and now a week later, I've not had a single issue.
I am running Mavericks 10.9.4 on a MacBook Air with an external (non-Apple) thunderbolt display (via a Thunderbolt to HDMI adaptor), with the lid of the MacBook Air closed.
To change the setting, I opened the lid of the Air, with the ext. display still attached then: System Preferences > Displays > (display settings for the MacBook Air built-in display) > Uncheck "Automatically adjust brightness".
Hope this helps someone.

Sep 26, 2014 10:45 AM in response to GooberGrape70by aloidolt,... same here: I use a MB Air with Bluetooth Keyboard & Trackpad on a 27" Thunderbolt display. Was never an issue, one click on the keyboard or tap on the Trackpad, and the MBA would wake up together with the display. Since several weeks this only works when I didn't use the computer for a few minutes. After ca. 15min sleeping, the display will not wake up, have to unplug it from the MBA and re-plug it otherwise it stays dark.

Sep 30, 2014 12:08 PM in response to GooberGrape70by reticularis,I too have had sleep/wake issues with my Thunderbolt and MBP. Come on Apple, this is a real problem that needs to be fixed.

Oct 8, 2014 7:48 AM in response to GooberGrape70by Six Points,Just bought the 27" Thunderbolt Display this past weekend from Best Buy. I notice that if I put the computer to sleep, and then try to wake it again in the morning after a long night, the TD does not awaken.
Should I bother with this? I really need an extra screen, but I'm worried of more sinister problems down the road. Has Apple addressed this? Looks like it's been going on for years.
What's the point of Apple products being so expensive if they are also prone to hardware issues??
