Q: Lots of mail issues since last Mountain Lion update

Since the last update to Mountain Lion, just a couple of days ago, my mail has gone completely haywire, and I can't figure out why.

First of all, my Mail App on my mid-2010 27" iMac won't get mail anymore.  I have to close mail and reopen it every single time to see if I have email, which is quite convenient when you're waiting on replies to something.  If I have my iPhone nearby, mail will show up there -- but not on the desktop.

Secondly, my iPhone WAS NOT upgraded to IOS8 (nor will it be!) -- the software was downloaded (against my wishes) and it is just sitting there with a comment that there's not enough memory to install it.     So no upgrade on the iPhone -- yet, when I send a photo from my phone to my gmail account, it automatically sends it to my iCloud address -- which is NOT what I want, and it doesn't show up in my Mail App on the iMac!   I made no other updates to my phone -- just an upgrade to Mountain Lion on the iMac.   Previously, I could take an iPhone photo, mail it to myself, and it would come to my desktop where I could save it there.  Now it won't do that.  And I didn't make any changes to it.   No matter how much I try and change things to get rid of the stupid cloud address, it will not send to my gmail account anymore, and thereby won't end up on my desktop iMac.

This is making things very unusable!    Has anyone else had issues, and does anyone have any work-arounds?

I just this minute had a Gmail come to me automatically!  Will they now go back to "normal" or was this one that just got through?  It seems that it was received very quickly-- and I did not have to turn-off/turnback-on my Gmail or quit MAIL.

OK I'll report back-- if this actually seems to be SOLVED - please keep the post open a few days in case it reoccurs.

    Best regards,

I just received several emails notifying me about these latest posts in this thread. So something has changed. They are the first emails to arrive unprompted in my Inbox for about 48 hours. Fingers crossed...

I'm now receiving emails for our company gmail account but not my personal account. That's a step in the right direction though.

Wooop… the personal one just received my test email (sent from iCloud account).

    Keep your fingers crossed!

I have switched a lot of my eMails to my @mac.com (today icloud.com but I just love my .mac name…)--- but yes just got a Gmail automatically.

Amazing how fast you can "divorce" an eMail address and "marry" a new one in this electronic digital age.  Try changing postal addresses!  Hey, I appreciate the US Postal Service-- but it is not quasi-instantaneous like eMail.

Did people write as many letters in business 30 years ago as we today write eMails?  Or did they telephone more?  Answer:  I don't remember but I believe we really did use the phone (then later the telex, then the FAX) more often.  Really didn't have electronic mail until 1991 with "cc:Mail" (intercompany) then eMail via dial-up in about 1996.

Just watched "Words and Pictures" last evening and I have my own new word:    Amazazinging   or in this case I guess it was  -Amazazinging…

    All working again here too!

Tested sending email from my domain name account to both my gmail accounts and they are now downloading to the inbox without have to restarting mail.

Some one fixed something and this was no way caused by an user error since I see it was fixed for other users at the same time.

Will awaiting the forthcoming confession and apology from the powers above to all us low level users.

Google has posted a message saying the problem has been fixed. It's here:

Congratulations, all! Thanks again to all who added their voice to the need for a fix.

I feel like we should all call it a day and meet for virtual drinks.

Thanks all for the great info, and thanks to Google for actually fixing it (fairly) quickly.  Now my question is -- how in the HECK does one "unsubscribe" from these threads once the issue has been resolved?  I cannot find it anywhere......

    Thanks!

Go to top right and click "following" and "Bookmarked" so they say "Follow" and "Bookmark".

BUT BUT -- what about eMails in the SENT box?  I am only showing 6 vs on the Gmail web eMail and eMails that are going into the google folder are NOT always going into my IN BOX--- still issues!!

May be resolved later--- but certainly not back to normal for me yet!

    Keep this post open!!

I know, right?        I'm lifting my coffee in a toast to everyone who helped by reporting to Apple / Google, escalating the issue and a bringing about a fix.  I learned a lot from you all today.

I just had to do a restart to get 4-5 gmails into my IN BOX so I do NOT believe this is 100% solved.  It may have worked for a few minutes- but is not working now---

Any others seeing this lapse back into failure mode like me?

    Best regards,

Steve, did you restart Mail one last time? Jordan said that would have to be done to see everything fixed.
