Apr 9, 2014 2:59 PM in response to pshuteby Jon_E,In fact, I can see the email from Judy today near the too of my in-box. But whether I search from:Judy from: Judy or from:judyswholeemailaddress, it does not come up. And that is symptomatic of the problem with this search system.

I agree that it's broken in many ways, but the problem you're describing seems different to what most postings in this thread have described. Most people are complaining about too many irrelevant results, in seemingly random order, often duplicated. I don't think anyone has mentioned not getting any results at all like this.
There must be something unusual about her emails that prevents it from finding them. Does it find her emails if you enter search terms from the body of her message? Does it find other emails if you enter the senders' names?

May 16, 2014 9:17 PM in response to ross0by joblodger,Seeing as Apple are too stubborn to admit this is a mistake (practically rendering the search option of the mail app useless), there is a relatively easy fix...
Download a third party mail app from the App Store. I'm using Mymail but there seems to be plenty of others doing the same thing like Mailbox or Cloudmagic, all are pretty quick to set up.
They all use the 'traditional' search method; no duplicates, results are in reverse chronological order and there is no over complicated searching criteria.
If it wasn't broken don't fix it Apple!

May 18, 2014 2:14 PM in response to pshuteby AndyLuck,The iPhone and iPad App Boxer supports all IMAP Mailsystems and Exchange, too. It's very good and I use it since 3 Apple doesn't react to this case. I think since 3 months roundabout... So Boxer is the solution to the search problem. And with Boxer I found also Sanebox (featured in the Boxer App), which managed to reduce my inbox from 2500 Mails to 400 and saves me a lot of time because of a really good rules system...
If you use this invitation URL, you will get a free 2 weeks trial and $5 in SaneBox credit:

Oct 10, 2014 4:08 PM in response to G wolfby Sanczol,I don't know how it works on iPhone 5s but probably you have the same IOS 7.1.2 so the same problems.
The workaround for me is to use Spotlight from home screen to search through emails.
Good enough but... Apple you should really fix mail app for IOS 7.* users... so shame you ignore your clients...

Jun 23, 2015 11:18 AM in response to ross0by @ppleaccount,Has this not been resolved by Apple yet? I have a 4th gen iPad on IOS 6.1 and I don't have issues there. I've tested the issue on two separate iPhone 5 devices running both IOS 8.1, and 8.3 and I get the same dupes everyone else describes. Over 2 years, and nothing?!?!?!? VERY disappointing, Apple.

No, still the same problem with duplicates on both iPhones and iPads with iOS8.3, although I guess the thread has moved elsewhere now that we've moved on from iOS7 that introduced it.
What's changed though is that the order of search results is now much more usable. There are times when it would help to be able to search just the subject line, etc, but usually I can find what I want.
