Apr 21, 2014 12:57 PM in response to KimberlyfromWIby jason269,Hello, Kimberly.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Here is an article that I would recommend going through when experiencing issues with FaceTime.
Troubleshooting FaceTime for Mac
You can make FaceTime calls using the FaceTime app. You can call FaceTime users whose contact information is in Contacts. You can add contacts and edit contact information in either FaceTime or Contacts. To place a video call, you may use a phone number or email address.
If you encounter issues making or receiving FaceTime calls, try the following:
- Verify that FaceTime is enabled in FaceTime > Preferences.
- If the issue persists, or if you see the message "Waiting for Activation", try toggling FaceTime off and then on.
- Verify that the Date, Time, and Time Zone are set correctly:
- From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences > Date & Time > Date & Time.
- Enable "Set Automatically".
- Click the Time Zone tab and confirm the closest city is correct.
- Verify that both parties are connected to an active broadband Internet connection.
- See Mac OS X: Troubleshooting a cable modem, DSL, or LAN Internet connection.
- Consult Using FaceTime behind a firewall for necessary ports to open in firewalls, security software and routers.
- If you encounter issues using a Wi-Fi network, use standard Wi-Fi network troubleshooting to resolve interference and other issues.
- Verify the phone number or email address being used is the correct one activated for FaceTime.
- You can verify that you are using a valid Apple ID at appleid.apple.com. You can also create an Apple ID or reset your password from this website.
- Verify that both parties have installed the latest software updates for their Mac and/or device. See:
FaceTime for Mac: Troubleshooting FaceTime

Cheers,
Jason H.
- Verify that FaceTime is enabled in FaceTime > Preferences.

Apr 24, 2014 12:49 PM in response to jason269by moosesmom,None of this helped me. I've had continuous inability for the last three days to connect with FaceTime on both my phone and my macbook pro. Both used to work fine, everything is updated, and nothing else has changed.

Apr 24, 2014 12:50 PM in response to moosesmomby stedman1,Judging by all the posts on the forum, there seems to be an issue at Apple's end, although they have made no announcement on their status page. Some users have reported that Apple is aware of the issue. Sadly, we have to wait for Apple to provide some sort of update/fix. Be certain to leave feedback to express your feelings for Apple at the link below.

Sep 30, 2014 9:01 PM in response to KimberlyfromWIby asept,I am wondering if you ever found a way to resolve this issue. I am having trouble connecting to FaceTime. It fails on both my iPhone and Desktop.
I tried updating the software, turning it off and on, registering new emails. I basically tried everything Apple Support suggests and have yet to be able to connect via facetime in over a month. Anyone else having the same issue?

Oct 3, 2014 5:54 PM in response to aseptby Wayne Henderson,Still getting "FaceTime failed" after every attempt to connect. FWIW, the ringer goes through in both directions, so it "knows" who I want to connect to. Seems to fail the instant the receiving party hits "Accept".

Oct 17, 2014 4:58 PM in response to KimberlyfromWIby Barry Rickert1,What years are your Macs? Mine is 2009. No wifi just ethernet to my mac. iPad works great on wifi.
Wondering if no wifi and older macs have an issue here?

Oct 18, 2014 7:55 AM in response to Barry Rickert1by Wayne Henderson,My issues were between a late 2011 15" Macbook Pro running Mavericks and a mid-2010 13" Macbook on Lion. I had my daughter update to Mavericks and this did not change the situation.
She discovered that removing her iPhone 4S from the network fixed the problem (she is using it as an iPod - no phone service or data plan). As soon as she turned off her iPhone, we had no more problems getting the two laptops connected. Go figure.
