Q: I have never been able to set up a guest network that connects to the Internet. Please helpm

I am using an Airport Time Capsule 3T.  I  cannot connect my guest network to the Internet.  I've tried to rest Time Capsule and modem. I've aslo tried to bridge my modem  and disable Wifi from my Comcast modem.

The network is broadcast but will not connect my devices to the Internet.

Apple assumes that users will be connecting the Time Capsule to a pure modem. From the description in your post, it sounds like you have a modem/router or gateway type of device, and not a simple modem.

Turning off the wireless function on a modem/router or gateway does not make it a modem, nor does changing the device to a "bridge" setting necessarily make it a modem.

If you could post the make and model number of your modem, a user who views this post might be able to provide more information about......

    1) Whether it is even possible to configure the device as a pure modem.....not all modem/routers can be reconfigured to act as a simple modem.

    2) If it is possible to setup the device as a modem....."how" to do this.

Assuming it is possible to reconfigure your modem/router to function as a simple modem.......you would still need to check with your Internet Service Provider to make sure that they will support this type of setup if they provided the device to you.

If you continue to have difficulty, as your ISP if they can provide you with a simple, or pure modem......not a modem/router or gateway type of device.

    Thanks for the info.

Your "modem" is not really a "modem" in the traditional sense. According to the Arris user guide, you have a gateway......which is a device that combines both a modem and router into one single unified package. More details here:

    Touchstone TG862G/CT Telephony Gateway User's ... - Arris

Since the product was provided to you by Comcast / Xfinity....and I can find nothing in the User Guide regarding the possibility of configuring this device to act as only a simple modem..... the first logical thing to do might be to check with Xfinity support to ask them......

    1) Is it possible to configure the TB862G/CT to act only as a simple modem?

    2) If yes, "how" can this be accomplished?

    3) Will Xfinity support this type of configuration?

In general, most providers do not want their customers to modify the products that have been furnished, but perhaps Comcast / Xfinity will prove to be one of the exceptions in this regard.

In the event that Comcast is unable to comply with your requests, your next question for them would be whether they have a simple modem.....not a modem/router or gateway.....that would work with the Xfinity service.
