Q: My epson artisan 387 no longer prints cd's since airprint is now 'installed'. How can I disable airprint?

Since buying an ipad, my Epson Printer Artisan 387, will not print CD's from Epson's PrintCD. Can airprint be disabled? I do not print from my ipad.

Contact Epson.  I find it nearly impossible to see a correlation between an iPad printing to a printer and the printer suddenly not being able to print something.

There is no setting specifically for Airprint in Settings, btw.

Thanks for responding rbrylawski. Perhaps I should rephrase my question: Does anyone use a Stylus 837 to print on CD's (using the software that came with the Stylus 837)? If so, after recent Mavericks updates and the Airprint addition, are you still able to print labels on CD's?

I have contacted Epson twice. The second response I got filled me with hope: delete the Epson Stylus 837 Bonjour in "Printers and Scanners"; then check the plus to sign add a printer. Choose Epson Stylus 837 NOT Airprint. I followed those instructions several times to no avail.

All Epson drivers, Print CD, ALL are updated and current. Everything else works EXCEPT Print CD. We are artists and this function is important to us. Any help anyone could give us to solve this glitch would be greatly appreciated.

What types of computers is this happening on?    Mac? PC?

This seems to be a computer driver / setting issue not related to iPads or even airpint for that matter.

This is an issue between the printer and the computer whatever it is. If a firmware update caused this, its an Epson issue, not iPad related.  Epson is the one implementing the update to allow airprint.

If there is a way to turn it off it would be on the printer configurations either on the Pc or the printert itself.

Nothing here has any bearing on an iPad. And as such does not really belong in a forum related to iPads.

Unfortunately there is nothing to disable form the iPad for Airprint. And even if there were its unlikely it would have any effect on the printer if you disabled something on a completely unrelated device.

I suggest you contact Epson again.  This is an issue you will need to work out with them.  If it was their update that cuased they need to fix it.

Phil0124, Thank you for taking the time to respond. I will contact Epson again. Just to answer your question, I am on a 17" macbook pro using mavericks OSX10.9.1. I associated the problem (which only occured AFTER an OS update and AFTER buying an ipad) with Apple as much as with Epson, but I see your logic. It's probably an Epson decision based on the number of macs remaining that have disc drives.

I had this same/similar problem. All my other Macs printed to the Artisan 837 on CDs/DVDs without any problem except my MacPro.

I did what you suggested, deleted the Artisan 837 from the Printers & Scanners list is System Preferences. Then reinstalled it by clicking on the plus sign at the bottom of the printers listed on the left side of the Printers & Scanners settings page.

However, instead of just selecting the Artisan 837 in the pop up window, I chose "Add Printer or Scanner..."  That brought up another window which let me choose Epson Artisan 837(IP). I installed that and BOOM! It now lets me select all the media types including CD/DVD.

I had also previously downloaded and installed the OSX 10.8 printer drives from the Epson website for the 837. I know, you're not supposed to do this, but, everything works the way it is supposed to now, so I'm leaving it this way.

I'm going to do a back up (clone) and see if there is any software updates and how that affects my printing system.

    Good luck.

mark, thank you for taking the time to let me (and others) no of a solution to the problem. i feel remiss. i had, at last, got mine working again also and pretty much using the same logic as you did including the verboten installing the OSX 10.8 printer drives from epson. and, as you say, another window popped up after i chose 'add printer or scanner' and i made the same choice as you... voila! you state the solution very clearly. hope it helps others.

    again, thank you!

Thanks Mark, for saving my day or maybe night. I have spent 6 hours to find a solution until I found this post. Wow!

In addition to the helpful answers above, I was able to solve my "cannot use Epson PrintCD with my iMac in El Capitan" problem by:

System Pref/Printers & Scanners/selecting printer in list/Right click on printer/select: "Reset Printing System..."

That finally got things to work. From there, in Epson PrintCD, I did:

    File/Update Printer Information.

and that allowed PrintCD to recognize my newly added printer, which was a Bonjour Airprint printer. (Epson Artisan 837).

Thanks for all the posts in this thread!
