Oct 17, 2014 12:14 AM in response to dibakar8by ronaldfromdresden,...too fresh, just downloaded and installed in a coffee break.
It works, no hick ups. The translucency effect - I would say, very low effect.
The symbols are flat. No 3D at all. I would say, the Dock was looking more nice before - but over the time, I will adapt to it.

Oct 17, 2014 3:05 AM in response to dibakar8by Mason H.,Do NOT like the flat design. I liked the old dock better. Apple should have given us the option to have various docks. instead of shoving one dock down our throats. miss the Aqua theme back in the old days. I request more wallpapers with better sharpness. I saw a wallpaper that resembled an amateur photographer, very blurry. Lastly, the spotlight feature is annoying. it pops up in the middle of the screen, it is going to take me some time to get use to.

Oct 17, 2014 3:50 AM in response to dibakar8by ARykala,Was in the public beta program. Didn't like it originally but it has grown on me a lot. I like the new spotlight, notification centre and the ilk. Dont really think there is much to complain about apart from still not 100% sold on the new font.
Throughout the beta test had only two crashes. And that was in the beta 1 / 2 days.
Like the new safari and mail, finally stopped using chrome as prefer the new ones. Finder is much better.
I am quite sold on the new look now, think it is far more professional looking and modern,
I would recommend people try the dark mode if they dont like the brightness

Oct 17, 2014 10:13 AM in response to Mason H.by Unipresser,I agree re the dock -- the old one was infinitely better. Apple should put a little time into a fix that allows users to choose the new, ugly dock or the old, far more pleasing one. I'm on my Mac for 8 to 14 hours a day and that dock is up front and center for every second of that, so I want one I like, not one somebody jammed into the new OS just because they wanted another change.
It's not as bad as the Win8 trashing of the old Start button/display, but falls into the same category of making unnecessary changes without bothering to ask users or offer them an option.
Come on, Apple, do you really want to see another user compare anything about the Mac or its OS to Redmondstrosities?

Oct 17, 2014 12:08 PM in response to dibakar8by PeterVL57,The TS askes for a professional review. You should look at this website: http://arstechnica.com/apple/2014/10/os-x-10-10/
Personally I think Yosemite is a huge step forward, because it's the first release in five years that Apple made an effort to bring cohesion between the apps in OS X. The look and feel of all apps is consistent and that is an absolute necessity for intuitive use of an operating system.
That same consistency is wat made OS X Snow leopard such a great OS. In OS X Lion and OS X Mountain Lion new features were introduced, but the designers forgot the ground rule of a consistent design. Every new app came with a new and different look, and a new apporach in using the app. And over the years OS X became a visual mess, because of that.
You may like of dislike the chosen colors or flat designed buttons and icons. But I think that's a little beside the point. The major improvement is: Apple brought coherence back in our OS. I think Joni Ive and Graig Federighi and their team did a good job at that.

Ars Technica is a professional site that reviews hardware and software for advanced users. It does not have any bias for or against Apple. This is an excellent review of OS X 10.10 by experts in the field. It is also over 25 pages long and goes into deep detail. Have at it. http://arstechnica.com/apple/2014/10/os-x-10-10/
