Q: iOS 8 Calendar on iPhone showing GMT times for new events.

Hi everyone,

Since updating my iPhone 4S to iOS 8, the Calendar app now shows all my newly added events with GMT times, and not the local time (as I am not in GMT, I am +9 hours). All my previous and existing entries are displaying normally. I have not changed any settings at all. However, if I open one of the new events and enter the events details screen, the local times are clearly displayed along with a GMT equivalent time underneath it.

I have tried changing settings but nothing shows my events in local time as it did before the upgrade to iOS 8. Any ideas? Is this a bug? Am I missing a new setting? Many thanks in advance for your help or advice.

Cheers,

James.

This is exactly what mine does.  The calendar event is correct on my device but the time listed in the box lists CDT (I am on EDT).  Whether or not the CDT time is listed seems to be dependent upon where the appointment was made. My settings are all for EDT but CDT still shows up.

Apple needs to determine the reason for this and fix it.

I made a reply saying I had resolved it by changing my Gmail calendar - this did however it made the webmail wrong so now rely on time zone over ride and only view appointments via IOS not add or edit as i don't trust it to be correct.

I know someone mentioned reporting it to Apple, has anyone (will assume no reply as no) and does anyone know how? I have not reported it.

GIven the few people on the thread compared to say Bluetooth pairing issues (which I also have issues amongst other things) I can't help but think our voices won't be heard!!

Is it just me, an avid apple fan, but are these updates getting worse and more like dare I say it Microsoft with dodgy un tested and finished updates? Maybe we should not start that debate!! I'll be waiting for 9.1 next time before upgrading! On a plus note, 8.1 should be out by the 20th October in UK.

    Thanks

Just wanted to chime in here and say I have the same problem.  I use Google calendar for my main calendar for work.  I live in Eastern Time zone, but am getting GMT times displayed next to the times in calendar view.  When I go in to edit any of these times, I get GMT times displayed only which makes it very difficult to edit to say the least.  I am really hoping this bug is fixed quickly.  This is on a brand new Iphone 6 plus by the way.  Not restored from any back up at all.  Updated to ios 8.02.

@richb16:  So the 8.1 release is going to fix all problems and make everyone happy?

lmao sounds too similar to another recent claim of an 8.1 release.

@Sundi712 I would not make such a bold comment but let's hope! I sore somewhere that it 'should' resolve the Bluetooth issues out there!

I also have the GMT issue, but ONLY on my subscribed calendars. My gmail calendars are fine.  I have the timezone override set to off.

My subscribed calendar events are in the correct time slots, yet shows the GMT time on the actual event

DItto here. New iphone 6. Tried reinstalling Google calendars with temporary luck!  Worst problem is the nuisance editing appointments as the editing times appear as GMT.

I have the same issue; appointments that I have created in Outlook sync to my Apple devices and appear at the correct time but have the (GMT) time shown as part of the description. It's more annoying than anything else.

    Time Zone Override is off.

    I live in New Zealand.

This was definitely a result of upgrading to iOS 8 - and hasn't changed after installing iOS 8.1 today.

The only way that I have found to resolve it, is to open each affected appointment on my iPhone or iPad and edit the the time zone against the start and end times. That isn't a very good fix as I have lots of appointments from the sync with my Outlook work calendar.

I've searched through the forum and Apple support site and can't find any response from Apple so I am going to try and raise a support request with them.

If anyone works out how to resolve this, please post it here!

Mine was doing the same thing. The Apple webpage, (iCloud: Change your calendar’s time zone) said to login to your icloud.com account and to check your time zone on there. I just logged into my icloud account, changed my time zone to the correct time zone and the issue is now gone! No other changes were made on the phone. Hope this helps.

I have exactly the same problem as the rest of you, but nonomeoggi's solution, while I'm happy for him, did nothing for me.

I did this - now waiting to see if it has a positive effect. Not sure that it will as logging into iCloud showed me that it thought I was in a different timezome altogether - so a 3rd one! That is now set to New Zealand too, so I will see...

    Thanks for the heads up!

Mine already has NZ Standard time, and it didn't work for me.

Was having same issue - logged in to iCloud.com and followed linked instructions.  nonomeoggi's advice and link totally worked.
