Q: iPhone says macbook doesn't support bluetooth

I'm signed into iCloud on iPhone 5s with iOS 8.0.2 and MacBook Pro 2013 with OS X Yosemite. I go to pair the two devices and my iPhone will say "Connection Unsuccessful" because my "macro Pro is not supported." What do I do?

This seems to be a bigger issue since I also have it and I found others on the Internet having the same problem. Maybe iOS 8.1 will fix it on Monday.

Unless something has changed with the release of Yosemite and iOS 8, the iPhone does not support connecting to any computer (Mac or Windows) via Bluetooth except for personal hotspot (sharing the iPhone cellular internet connection). The following has the currently supported iPhone Bluetooth profiles and is current as of October 3: iOS: Supported Bluetooth profiles

So how do I use the continuity features of Yosemite?

You just do. As long as both devices are signed into the same iCloud account, and your Mac supports Blutooth 4.0 le, then they will see each other. Some features require that both devices be connected to the same WiFi network.

    Bluetooth pairing is not required.

I think I see where the Bluetooth confusion (which seems to have increased today) is coming from.

The document Connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac using Continuity   It could be much clearer about the pairing not being required!

    Handoff

Use Handoff with Apple apps such as Mail, Safari, Maps, Messages, Reminders, Calendar, Contacts, Pages, Numbers, and Keynote. You can also use Handoff with some third-party apps. Start a document, email, or message on one device and pick up where you left off on another device.

    How to get started:

    • Sign in to the same iCloud account on all your devices.
    • Turn on Bluetooth on all the devices you want to use. Make sure your devices are near each other.
    • Connect all your devices to the same Wi-Fi network.

Then, use one of the apps listed above on one of your devices.

this exact thing is happening to me too!! it's very frustrating because i wanted to use my iphone as a remote for a Keynote presentation and i just couldn't do it! honestly i still don't know what went wrong because i had been able to do it once before and i had no problem whatsoever, but now it just would not pair, i even reset the network configurations and still it won't connect to the macbook.. this happened to you quite a while ago... have you solved it? or did you had to bring it over to the genius bar?

What went wrong is you didn't bother to actually read the documentation on how to use the iPhone to control keynote.
