Sep 29, 2014 2:04 PM in response to nsmetaby alphabc,@nsmeta - well I can tell you it's not Cell Network Search, or Location-Based iAds that causes it
I just checked and I already had these turned off long ago, and yet I'm still getting the no SIM card message popping up in iOS 8.0.2
some of the other items you mention I do have turned on, maybe you have something here with Location Services behaving differently in IOS8...
The messages seem to pop up most often in Safari, or opening up a Youtube video, but other seemingly random times in other apps or in the home screen.

My apologies.

Sep 30, 2014 7:56 AM in response to Johnathan Burgerby Algnon,Same issue here - iPad mini original, crashed during ios8 update, came up with red plug into itunes logo - downloaded and tried to install update via iTunes on Mac mini 12 times, contacted Apple support - setup a new admin account on Mac mini, used the new iTunes to re-install ios8, then updated to 8.0.2 - facebook now crashes out 50% of the time, touchscreen has become very unresponsive, apps & games are slow and laggy, and the 'no sim' installed pops up every 5 minutes interrupting password entries, game playing, facebook chat etc...... it was working fine before the update to iOS 8

Oct 5, 2014 5:47 PM in response to sunnyinlondonby bdasquid,i own the iPad Mini with cellular, first generation. Since the ios 8 upgrade, my wi-fi slowed down considerably and the "SIM card not installed" plagued my Safari usage. it appeared that Safari wanted to access "something" via cellular. After doing the following, I have no more SIM errors and the wi-fi improved:
A deactivated micro SIM was placed into the iPad. Once the device recognized the SIM, cellular data was turned OFF.
Hope this helps!

Oct 8, 2014 6:20 PM in response to bdasquidby Toasted111,My iPad can support a SIM card but I have never used one, having always had a wifi connection available.
I too am still getting the no SIM card message popping up in iOS 8.0.2.
Dont really want to have to get a SIM card to avoid this annoyance... Maybe it will get fixed in a future update..... Let's hope.

Oct 9, 2014 2:49 AM in response to Toasted111by A904LEA,I ordered a free SIM online and my iPad seems to be happy now that it's fitted, even though the SIM is not activated and has no credit on it. It doesn't fix the iOS 8 bug, but at least it stops the annoying pop-up message.

Oct 11, 2014 9:28 AM in response to Nanou66by sunnyinlondon,Hi guys, thanks for all the responses. I went into the apple store a couple of days ago to buy some cables and whilst there, asked an employee to help me with the problem. He pretty much tried to get away before a more sympathetic one offered to help. He provided me with a free sim card and that has solved the problem for me. Prior to this I was even having problems connecting to the wifi at work which now it does automatically. I know this does not offer an actual solution, but at least I haven't had any annoying pop-ups. I was so happy to finally find a helpful person there that felt compelled to buy an expensive case for my new macbook. I would suggest if you have a chance and live near an apple store, go and do the same.
Regards,
sunnyinlondon

Oct 12, 2014 3:30 AM in response to sunnyinlondonby Mila Jones,I have an iPad air and have this same problem. Is Apple going to answer any of these comments and provide a solution? So frustrating and I don't live near an Apple Store so can't get a free sim to insert. Respond please Apple!

Oct 12, 2014 6:16 AM in response to sunnyinlondonby Bero79,HI all
I Had the same problem on ipad 3 cellular ios 8.0.2 and i inserted a sim card to activated cellular option in settings menu and then i turned off cellular and removed the sim card and worked fine so far, and an ipad word will be shown on top left screen next to wifi signal.

I tried the above workaround, i.e. inserted an old SIM card, turned OFF cellular data in Settings (actually, it was already off, so I toggled it ON then OFF again), then removed the SIM card -- the messages still continue to pop up at random times.
BTW, I was in the Apple Store the other day, taking a look at the new iPhones and also playing around with the iPad mini - while I was there I noticed the No SIM card error popped up several times on several of the units I was playing with!

Oct 17, 2014 1:10 PM in response to sunnyinlondonby ourcore,★HelpfulI solved the issue on my 1st-gen mini (on iOS 8.0.2) by telling Siri to "turn off mobile data" and now it just says "iPad" in the status bar, instead of "No Sim". Hope this helps.

Oct 17, 2014 2:06 PM in response to ourcoreby nmacleod,Same iPad, iOS 8.0.2. Tried your solution. Same result... "iPad" instead of "No Sim"
BUT... "No SIM card installed" message still appears.... Aaarrgh!

Oct 18, 2014 12:32 PM in response to sunnyinlondonby Mr Larrington,iPad Mini 2nd gen, iOS 8.0.2, churns out the "No SIM Card Installed" pop-up every couple of minutes.
Note to the Mega-Global Fruit Corporation of Cupertino, USAnia: I don't have a SIM installed. I've never had a SIM installed. And I don't need to be reminded of this. All. The. Time.
8.0.2 generally seems flakier than a three-day-old croissant. Does anyone from the Mega-Global Fruit Corporation of Cupertino, USAnia actually read these fora? Come to that, has the Mega-Global Fruit Corporation of Cupertino, USAnia ever heard of "testing", or do they expect non-critical fanboiz to do it for them?
This on top of the discontinuation of the iPod Classic is adding insult to injury
