Q: MacBook Pro update to Yosemite breaks Magic Mouse

Installed Yosemite today. Magic Mouse instantly broken. It does connect sometimes, but the tracking is sluggish and gestures don't work at all. Worked fine in Mavericks. Batteries @80%.

Re-pairing does NOT work for me. zaping PRAM does NOT work for me.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013)

2.7 GHz Intel Core i7

16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB

Is there a solution, patch? How can this be so terribly broken?

Did you check the System/Mouse preference pane to see if the settings there had been changed due to the upgrade?

Several times, yes. Clicked "Set up Bluetooth Mouse" button and established connection sporatically (2 out of 6 tries). IF the mouse pairs, it is still choppy and occasionally, it drops the connection all together!

Log into another user account and see if the problem persists there. If so the boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down), select Disk Utility and repair both the disk permissions and disk.  Reboot normally and try again.

If still shaky boot into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, and see if the problem continues there.

Okay, I logged in as a different user and the problem persisted. I then booted into recovery mode and ran the disk utility. First I ran verify and it discovered some problems. I then ran "Fix" and it seemed to fail, but I ran "Verify" then "Fix" again and it said it was repaired. Finally when I exited out of the DiskUtil it gave me the option to "Re-Install Mac OS". After 9hrs of re-installing- BINGO! It worked! Magic Mouse is now working as smooth as it did in Mavericks.

    Thanks Old Toad!

I have the same problem.  Just installed Yosemite and now my Magic Mouse won't work.  Freddio's solution seems very involved - is there an easier way to fix it for amateurs?

I had this problem just now, but it didn't require a restart or reinstall. Instead, I removed the batteries from the mouse. Found some new batteries, installed them, and then fired up the mouse. This extended power-down period of the mouse seemed to allow it to pair up with the computer just fine.

    Hello,

The problem persist. I have this problem on a macbook pro 13" retina display. Upgraded to Yoseminte and big problem, my Apple Magic did not working anymore. After i replace batteries, restart mac, turn off turn on bluetooth several times, i connect the mouse. But guess what? After i close the lid and i go home, when open the mac again, surprise: NO MOUSE.

Please be serious and get an answer to this issue, both are your products, if APPLE products get errors of communications, what I should expect from others.

People buy Apple for commodity and for less number of problems, in fact Apple products are not so good as you think. So if you have problems like I cannot connect a mouse with a Macbook Pro, then Apple fail.

Guess what, in your Apple stores, people who maybe know some english, don't know to solve this problem, and they told me is a personal problem.

For sure I have personal problem with my mouse...

Thank you for testing Yoseminte before official Launch.

    With respect,

    Shanaki

I have the same kind of problem only worse... my magic mouse doesn't work any more. I'm not good with mac computers, just have to use it for work, but I lost more than two hours already today trying to work a solution. Will have to buy a new mouse I guess, but not a mac one.

Guys, I think I've found what the problem was??? it was the wireless channel set in my router.

I've changed it from 1 to 6 and it works perfectly fine. I hope this helps~

I had this issue. My solution was to unplug my Time Machine external Hard Drive from iMac. I know it sounds really odd that having it plugged in would stop the gestures, but it worked for me. It must be completely unplugged, not just unmounted.

Upgraded to Yosemite and ever since have had issues connecting my magic mouse.  have tried removing batteries, un-pairing and re-pairing and rebooting which seems to be the only way I can get it to work again.
