This is particularly bad with iTunes because every update they frig around with the database so that you can NOT revert to a previous version. I was given NO WARNING and now it is TOO LATE.
Alas, this is simply untrue. While the steps to revert to an earlier version of iTunes are not without their hoops through which to jump, it's quite doable. I did it myself originally reverting from iTunes 11 back to 10.7. Searching in these forums for how to revert will reveal a number of threads that describe how to do it.

Oct 25, 2014 6:39 PM in response to FrenchToastby Luis Lage,I did and it still wouldn't work. I took the iMac into Apple and they think it might be the video card if not then the logic board! They have had it for just over a week now and still not fixed.

Designed for OS X Yosemite...
System Requirements
- OS X version 10.7.5 or later
- 400MB of available disk space
- iTunes in the Cloud, iTunes Match, and iTunes Radio availability may vary by country
- iTunes Radio requires OS X version 10.7 or later

This update NOT AVAILABLE for OS X 10.6.8 - Now we know why Apple will always need a snck!

You'll be waiting a long time, i.e., forever. OS X 10.6.8 is no longer supported at all. Even 10.7.5 is about to fall off the end of the wagon. (Lion security updates have already stopped coming down the pipe, so the writing is on the wall for it.) The grim reality is that Apple is in the hardware business and they want you on their 64-bit EFI-equipped systems. If you're on a system with a 32-bit EFI, you'll need to consider a hardware upgrade.

The obvious solution is to upgrade to a newer version of OS X. If you're complaining that Apple isn't supporting an unsupported OS while your hardware is happily capable of running a supported OS, I'm not sure what else to tell you. Upgrade.
