Q: Bluetooth pairing and so handoff does not work

Hi!

First of all I have a Macbook Pro 15" Retina late 2013 (bought at in the first months of 2014) and and iPhone 5s.

rMBP has installed OS X Yosemite since yesterday and my iPhone iOS 8.0.2

Positiv checks:

- both devices support Bluetooth LE

- both devices are on the same wi-fi network

- rMBP support handoff and instant hotspot as displayed in system information screen

- rMBP could "out call" over facetime and my iPhone to anyone

- bluetooth is activated on both devices

- airdrop (for everyone) is activated on both devices

- handoff in settings -> general on rMBP ist actived

- handoff in settings -> generall -> handoff & ... ist activated on iPhone too

Problems:

- handoff does not work between my rMBP and iPhone

- in bluetooth settings both devices see each other, but they cannot connect to each other

if I try to connect bluetooth from rMBP to iPhone I get: network not available

if I try to connect bluetooth from iPhone to rMBP I get: connections failed

so what can I do to pair/connect them both to each other for these incredible handoff features I want to use?

things I tried out:

- switching airdrop on and off on both devices

- switching airdrop off and on on both devices

- switching bluetooth off and on on both devices

- clearing bluetooth device cach on rMBP and fresh select (pairing) in the settings

- multiple trys on my iPhone to connect with my rMBP

- resetting network settings on iPhone

- resetting all settings on iPhone

I run out of ideas .... can anybody help me please!

I have the same problem to pair iphone 5 with iOS 8.0.2 and MacBook Pro Retina 13" with Yosemite (10.10). I think that is a software problem because we aren't the only with this problem. I hope that Apple fix the bug fast...

Same here. I had the Yosemite beta running on both my iMac and 15'" MBP retina and while handoff worked great on the iMac, it never worked on the MBP. I thought it was probably the beta software. Well here is the full OS 10.10 release  and it still doesn't work.

After calling AppleCare for about an hour is resolved the Handoff-Problem but that does not work for Instant Hotspot too.

The way we tried to solve ist:

    - Deactivate all Network - Router (taking off power)

    - Reactivate the router

    - deactivate WLAN on rMBP

    - shut down rMBP
    - press: shift + ctrl + alt + power until rMBP shows up the login screen (safe os mode)

    - shut down rMBP again

    - power on rMBP and press: alt + cmd + r + p until  you can hear the boot sound

    - now login into your rMBP

    - open finder and goto "Macintosh HD" -> library -> Preferences

    - delete com.apple.Bluetooth.......

    - open Settings -> iCloud ... sign off from iCloud and than sign in again

now in bluetooth settings iPhone should not be displayed, it currently will be connected through Bluetooth 4.0 LE without showing up in Bluetooth settings

    Be sure of:

    - being on the same WI-FI network (rMBP and iPhone)

    - rMBP handoff ist activated in "Settings -> General" -> there ist a handoff option

    - iPhone's handoff ist activated too "Settings -> General -> Handoff & ..."

Please tell me, if that two special booting "things" will help to solve your problems with handoff too!?!

by the way, AirDrop must NOT me activated ;-)

next thing, i want to find out is, why instant hotspot does not work ..... but that is not a huge problem, because i can simply turn on the personal hotspot on my iPhone.

This worked for me, too. Specifically, removing all the com.apple.bluetooth... files from Macintosh HD: Library: Preferences.

    Hi there,

I did all that u listed but my handoff is still isn't working. Im using iPhone 5c and MacBook Pro(mid 2012) which is compatible. Is there any other troubleshooting?

yes, there is an additional troubleshooting for your iPhone.

    - be sure that you have still OS X Yosemite and iOS 8.0.2 or later (8.1 on Monday) installed on your devices

    - on iOS goto settings -> generall -> scroll down to reset settings (last option on general screen) -> reset all network settings

    - be sure to reconnect to the same WI-FI after you did that

    - be sure to activate Bluetooth

    - be sure that Handoff ist activated on your iPhone (Settings -> General -> Handoff)

    - be sure your MBP ist on the same WI-FI (same bandwith as well, for example both devices have to be on 2,4 GHz)

if that troubleshooting does not work for you, goto settings -> iCloud -> scroll down to logout from your iCloud on iOS

and than reconnect to iCloud on your iPhone 5c

if that troubleshooting does not work too, goto settings -> general -> scroll down to reset settings

and reset all settings, do the same as before

you can also check on your MBP:

    - goto Macintosh HD/library/Preferences/By Host and check for files com.apple.Bluetooth......

    - delete them

    - do not forget to activate Bluetooth on MBP

if you did the two boot-tricks in the troubleshooting, Bluetooth should be reseted to default, and if you open Settings -> Bluetooth on your MBP

your iPhone should NOT be shown in the list of available Bluetooth devices.

please tell me, what works for you!

    ;-)

    Hi Eleria83,

I tried all that you suggested but upon pairing the bluethooth is connected only for a couple of seconds...it will disconnect then.

    Hi guys

my iPhone 6 is NOT shown in the bluetooth devices list. However, handoff only works from my MB to my iPhone / iPad and between iPhone / iPad. It still doesn't work from my iPhone / iPad to my MB.

I can also receive and make calls from my MB.

    :-(
