Q: I can't turn on Family Sharing

Hi,

I have a strange problem where I can't enable family sharing. When I go top the system settings the enabled button is greyed out (see attached) and will not let me enable it. My Apple ID is working perfectly and I'm able to purchase APP's normally and all the other functions of my ID work ok. If I use a different Apple ID the enable button goes active.

Please can anyone offer help.

    Hey there Legolasza,

I understand that you are having some issues with Family Sharing. I have an article for you that can guide you through setting up Family Sharing on your devices that may resolve your issue:

If you don't see your family's shared content

You may also want to see this information about the system requirements for Family Sharing, which are listed on this page:

    Hi Braden,

Thanks for the reply. I have seen all those articles and unfortunately they do not resolve my issue. Everything I have meets the required specifications, but as my screen shot showed, the ability to turn on family sharing is simply greyed out.

    Regards,

    Mark

I am having the same issue.

On my iOS 8.1 devices in the iCloud Settings pane it says "Family information is not available." In the iCloud System Preferences pane on my Yosemite Mac the "Set Up Family" button is greyed out.

If you or anyone else finds out how to enable Family Sharing please share it with us.

    Hi Komakino,

I have spoken with Apple support and they have told me, the reason why I can not enable family sharing is because my Apple ID is also enrolled to a business account. This is why they say it can't be turned on because family sharing is a personal thing not a business. I am still waiting on the final response from Apple to see if there is anything else I can do, as I have a number of things purchased under my account.

    Mark,

Thank you for sharing your findings. I wonder if my AppleID is somehow also marked as a business account. I will contact Apple to see what I can find out.

I am having the same issue. I have been in touch with apple sales training, and they have apparently removed the business aspect on my appleid. However, I still cannot connect/setup family sharing. In iOS>iCloud>"family sharing information is not available" and the section is greyed out.

You have to have OS X Yosemite to use family sharing. It says that you are running OS X Mountain Lion.

    Hola Legolasza,

Is your AppleID personal? May be you use it to connect to AppleSalesWeb or similar web dedicated to Apple Resellers o similar?

Apparently, If you was used your AppleID for other services "enterprise", then your AppleID can't activate the Family Sharing.

Maybe you can solve it contacting with the support of the web in question.

    Saludos,

    Hi!

I have the same issue with my apple id.

Is there any way to fix this without contacting apple? or is there an email from apple that you can contact them to fix it?

I think it is a easy solution if they only have to change from a "business" account to a "personal" account.

    Thanks for your help!

You have to go to settings, photos and camera, and turn on iCloud sharing and then the family will be useable under iCloud

Nope. That's not it.  I am having the same problem with the grayed Set Up Family button and I have iCloud sharing turned on in my photo and camera settings.

You might want to consider starting a new discussion. Since this one is a couple of years old, less people are likely to look at it. A new post would be much more visible. You can link to this one.
