Q: Apple TV cannot connect to iTunes library on MacBook Pro after upgrade to Yosemite/iTunes 12

Does anyone else have this problem?

After upgrading my MacBook Pro to Yosemite / iTunes 12, my Apple TV cannot connect to it's iTunes library anymore.

I have tried the following:

Logging in/out of Apple TV and MacBook Pro's Home Sharing/iTunes account

Turning on/off my wireless router/modem

Turning on/off the Apple TV and MacBook Pro

A combination of the above

Nothing works.

Is this a bug or am I to wait for an update to Apple TV?

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

    2. restarted apple tv

    3. pram and smc reset

    4. restarted macbook

    5. started itunes

    I'm having same issue. I have tried every single suggestion in this thread….. nothing worked. I have the latest MACBOOK PRO and the latest iMAC along with 3rd gen Apple TVs one in Den & one in bedroom.

    All I can say is I'm glad I upgraded to Yosemite only on my macbook pro  !!!  I wanted to be sure nothing major f….ed.

    Because of my precaution I can still watch my collection of movies from my iMac on my Apple TV.

    "My macbook pro library" is nowhere to be found !!!!!

    It's ridiculous that after all the extensive beta testing that has been done on this "Yosemite" they could miss something as simple as connecting iTunes library to Apple TV. Come on programers & testers you get paid a heck of a lot of money, this is embarrassing !!!

    YES! That worked for me too. I also PRAMed the iMac, and changed my iTunes library name, just in case, so I'm not sure what exactly did the trick for me. Now, my concern is with this 5GHz wifi instability that has appeared since the Yosemite upgrade. Thanks!

    I am having this issue too.

    Still using Maveric, but performed the security with iTunes update.

    Long pause between using ATV to airplay from MBA. Also, ghost screens on the ATV (e.g., will draw screen onto a previous screen).

    Tried to send video to the ATV, and got tired of waiting for . . . something to happen!

    Turning on/off Home Sharing in iTunes alone didn't work for me. What eventually worked: (not sure how much was necessary or unnecessary, but tried a few things based on the posts above)

    -On Mac:

    --Turned off Home Sharing in iTunes (File -> Home Sharing)

    --Changed Library Name in iTunes (in Preferences)

    -On AppleTV:

    --Turn Home Sharing Off (Setting -> Computers)

    --Turn Home Sharing On

    -On Mac:

    --Turn on Home Sharing (File -> Home Sharing)

    Renaming the computer name in home sharing preferences had no effect on the issue

    'System Preferences / Sharing / Change Computer Name' finally worked for me on my iMac (late 2011) as everything I had tried prior to this had failed.

    I just want to say that, having tried the various Developer Previews, everything worked just fine until DP n°8 and following. Oddly enough, all the DPs and GM versions worked perfectly on my MacBook Pro (early 2011)...

    I had found, however, that Airplay worked and I could stream the contents of my iMac via my iPhone (thanks to the Remote App) to my AppleTV. It was not perfect but it was better than nothing. Just thought I would post that here, if it can help those for who the other methods do not work !

    A second trial with the following steps changing the Computer’s name replacing with a short one and off / on on both Mac & ATV makes home-sharing works again.

    > Turn Off Home-Sharing on MAC;

    > Turn Off Home-Sharing on ATV;

    > On MAC:

    - Go to: System Preferences;

    - Go to: Sharing Tab;

    - Change Computer Name;

    > Re-Start the MAC;

    > Re-Start ATV;

    > Turn ON Home-Sharing on MAC;

    > Turn ON Home-Sharing on ATV;

    Singing wishing song during the above process seems to be extremely helpful.
