Q: view appleworks file in OS10.6.8

I need to view and send an appleworks file, I am currently running OS10. When the file opens, it is in machine language/code.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

    If you are running Snow Leopard and don't have a copy of Appleworks, you can open AppleWorks word processing files in LibreOffice (free). You should convert it to something else such as .doc or .rtf if you want to send it, as few people can open these files directly.

     

    (Note that the current version of LibreOffice, 4.3, will be retired next April and its successor will not run on Snow Leopard.)

     

    If you do have a copy of Appleworks and you can't open the file, make sure the extension .cwk is appended to the filename.

    Rogers advice also applies to LibreOffice on Yosemite too.
