Q: iPhoto not exporting slideshow?

I have Apple Mac Pro with OSX version 10.9.5 3.5Ghz 6-core Intel Xeon E5 with 32GB 1867 Mhz DDR3

Since updated I find that iPhoto ver 9.5.1 does not want to export any slideshow that I create?

Can someone advise me how to fix please!

Thanks,

Chris

What exactly happens when you try to export a slideshow? Any error message? Where are you trying to export the slideshow to? Your Desktop? An external disk?

The Export window comes up on top of the screen as usual but there is no progress inside the progress bar... It remains blank even if you leave it for an extended period of time.

I have tried it with a shorter (3) photo slide show and the same results.

Try the same from a different iPhoto  library. Launch iPhoto with the options key held down and create a new library just for testing. Import a few photos and try to export a slideshow. Do you see the same problem?

I have just tried a new library as per holding down "Option" key. The same things happens there also. Export window but no progress.

P.S I'm trying to export to my desktop.

Some folks have fixed this issue by reinstalling iPhoto.

    To re-install iPhoto

    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)

    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.

For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:

2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.

2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type

    /var/db/receipts/

    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at

    /private/var/db/receipts

A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.

    3. Re-install.

If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.

If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.

*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?

iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

I followed the above instructions and solved my problem!

Thank you so much for the guidance and now I can export my slideshows perfectly.

I have more questions about other related Mac questions and will ask then soon.

I had the exact same issue with Yosemite (OSX 10.10) and iPhoto (9.6) and reinstalling iPhoto from the App Store also solved it for me.
