Q: OSX Yosemite Wifi issues

Hi there,

I upgraded my Macbook Pro Retina 15" (mid 2014 revision) to OS X Yosemite last night and am now having issues when using my home WiFi connection. Whilst it connects to either the 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz network, it is basically unusable. Web pages take minutes to load (if they even load at all), dropbox doesn't sync because it can't get a connection and even trying to get to the router config page is extremely slow and hit/miss.

Tethering to my iPhone seems to work ok, as does using my home network via wired ethernet.

Are any others having problems with Yosemite? Wifi was working fine on Mavericks.

I got problems with Jump RDP to. Same with Windows RDP that come with office.

Had alot of problems with wifi last night after and the day I did update. But looks more stable today. Have a corporate wifi so need to login everytime it droppes out so is kind of pain in the *** if connection droppes every 5-20 min..

My Jump even want to connect every time I switch screens on my mac. Was never like this on any of the other os x I have ran...

Is that the same on yours?

Let me jump in and add that I am having problems with 5GHz connection as well. It works fine on my 2.4GHz but not the former. Frustrating beyond words considering my iOS8 installs have also had Wifi issues.  I'm not sure what's going on in Cupertino, but every single software update I have installed in the last two years has had some sort of connectivity problems.  Totally unacceptable.

I have a different problem but related to networking over WiFi on my MBA,

Samba share is not accessible, well that's not entirely true, because I can browse shares but when copy something over Win machine tells me that location is not accessible, retry -> file copied -> error message (retry?) -> retry -> etc...

    Any idea?

I will omit here my personal opinion because I don't want to be rude as it will be not constructive, but this issue is beyond comment.

This is what I recieved from Jump. I have not tested it yet.

    "Hi,

Are you running in fullscreen mode? If so this is known issue with Jump Desktop 4.0.4 and Yosemite. We've already submitted Jump Desktop 5.0 to Apple that fixes this issue and we're hoping it should be approved soon. In the meantime the best workaround is to avoid fullscreen/dual screen mode until the new version hits the App Store. Or alternatively you can download the trial version of Jump Desktop 5.0 from here: http://jumpdesktop.com/downloads/jdmac and use that until the App Store version of Jump Desktop is available.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.
    Thanks."

I am also experiencing intermittent connectivity issues on my 15" Early 2013 Retina MacBook Pro using a 5ghz connection. I don't believe it is actually disconnecting, but after a bit I'll go to reload a page on safari or do something internet related and it will just hang. For example, the loading bar for a page in safari will move maybe an inch, and then just stay there for a minute until it clicks again and loads the rest.

Yes it's true that wifi in Yosemite has problems connecting to 5 Ghz frequency instead try using routers with 2.5 Ghz frequency. The best solution is to use an AirPort Extreme or Time Capsule !!

Appreciate the response but asking someone to fork over more money just to make something work as it was intended is just ridiculous.

I also don't think that it "can't work with 5Ghz frequency" -- it's supposed to, but it is a bug that Apple needs to fix immediately.

Then I sacrifice internet speed. I get my full speed of about 120mbps over 5ghz wireless N, and only about 10-15mbps over 2.4ghz. Apple's really gotta fix this.

And I'm glad that some folks are finding these "workarounds" to work for them...as none have for me...And let's be clear...It's not Bluetooth, or my router, or my internet connection, or the frequency, dropbox or one drive...the issue is unknown and needs to be fixed by Apple. My connection cuts out in a minute. This is horrible...so mad.

I did an upgrade from Mavericks to Yosemite on my MBA and had the same issues with dropping internet connection and slow speed.

Deleting the folder /System/Library/SystemConfiguration and reboot cured my issue.

To force keeping connection you can run in terminal ping -i 0.2 <router-ip>

So the AirPort will not go to sleep...

I have 2.4 and it disconnects.  I turned off bluetooth and it disconnects.  It always disconnects.   I'm forced to use my phone as a hotspot.

Same, if not similar problem with Wifi and Yosemite:

Safari browsing is where I continue to have an issue.  I'll browse for 30 seconds, maybe a minutes, then all of a sudden I'm waiting for Safari to respond.  iPad is fine, iPhone is fine, just Mac cuts out randomly.  I don't get it.

I'm pretty annoyed, I installed Yosemite, now my internet won't work.  Wifi says connected, but App Store, Safari, and everything can't connect to Internet.  If there's an update to fix it, how do I even get it without a connection?  I tried plugging an Ethernet cable from iMac to modem, but that didn't seem to work either.   The things other people said to try have been unsuccessful.

    Hey everyone,

You guys have to turn off BLUETOOTH, which i know is super annoying.

I am having the same issues. it seems its either bluetooth or wifi, running them both is not happening.

it's got nothing to do with your connection network preferences or anything like that, or even the wifi band or router settings. it's entirely software driven.

we just gotta stay tuned for an apple update to fix the bug ridden OSX release.
