May 21, 2014 6:59 AM in response to Sean Manteyby JohnnyDvorak,Same issue for me. Two month old MBP and wired keyboard, and suddenly the keyboard stopped working. All other USB devices seem to work fine, and the keyboard works on other computers.
I tried the USB extension cable trick, and it worked for me. I guess we'll see how long it works for. Very frustrating issue.

May 29, 2014 7:14 PM in response to nrorgby BVaquero,I have had the same problem for months. New MacBook pro and a wired Apple keyboard. It periodically won't recognize keyboard. No consistency except that once I disconnect KB to take MBP with me it sometimes won't recognize no matter which cord is used. Then next morning or next day or ..... all is good. Nothing I do seems to solve it. Very frustrating and defeats the purpose of an external KB with numbers pad.

Jun 19, 2014 4:22 PM in response to BVaqueroby antoniopedota,Hi guys. This issue is really getting on my nerves now. I plugged my old black KB that came with my silver into the iMac to see if the iMac would react and it did. I then plugged the black KB into back into my old Silver and now the KB does not work....jajajaja this is a joke. It does not work with or without the extension. This KB has always worked on the Silver. This makes me think that something happened to the black KB when plugged in the iMac. The KB that came with my iMac (the new silver & white) is not working and I´m writing from a white KB that with the extension plugged into a cinema monitor rather than the iMac, works just fine. Any thoughts?

Jul 26, 2014 6:15 AM in response to nrorgby ExcB,Same issue over here. USB-keyboard from Apple no longer works after I hibernate my Macbook Air. Have to pick another usb-port on my hub, then it works again. But I seem to be unable to re-use a used port. I was lucky to have a bluetooth keyboard laying around.

Sep 5, 2014 6:16 AM in response to nrorgby @hbk,Just another person to confirm that the extension cable trick does work.
The extension cable I used is not the one come with the keyboard but my private one.
Big thanks for those who pointed out the trick.
At least, I can continue my work.
Tested on Macbook Pro Late 2013 15" Retina

Sep 5, 2014 11:26 AM in response to nrorgby Laremalla,MacBook Pro Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013

I have this same, extremely frustrating, problem.
Yesterday, my wireless bluetooth Apple keyboard suddenly stopped working, and then when I looked into the control panels I found that this Mac is unable to connect to the keyboard- and yet it was working just fine two days ago and I haven't run any update since that time. cable to connect it.
So what is the fix?! It's a bluetooth keyboard, so I can't use a physical USB to connect it.
And yes- the batteries are good, the keyboard is powered on, and I have gone through all the requisite system prefs and control panel settings.
I wish this would be fixed, because it's killing my productivity today and this is a very expensive, new set-up I have to not be able to use a keyboard to type. **** this machine!

Oct 5, 2014 11:13 AM in response to nrorgby vaguepast,Same problem here on a late 2013 13" Retina MacBook Pro. Using a USB extension (third party, haven't tried the Apple one yet) seems to fix it, for now.
Seriously frustrating.

Oct 5, 2014 11:15 AM in response to Laremallaby vaguepast,Laremalla, no one has posted that link because it's a fix for a Bluetooth keyboard issue. This thread is about the wired Apple keyboard, not the Bluetooth one.

Oct 9, 2014 6:50 AM in response to nrorgby edoardojames,Had the same problem on a MacBook Pro with 15 in Retina Display, the Apple USB keyboard suddenly went dead after Sleep mode. Tried both usb ports, restart, nothing.
Then I connected the Apple USB extension cable (which comes with the keyboard) and it magically works. I don't know why, but somehow it is working.

Oct 13, 2014 2:18 AM in response to nrorgby Kipan,Infuriating problem!! I've got a MacBook Air, bought in July 14. Keyboard worked fine for maybe 6 weeks and then started to have issues if I ever disconnected it (as you do, you bought a laptop to be mobile after all!!) and sometimes just after having gone to sleep. The first time it happened, I restarted and it was fixed. Second time, nothing would work - reboots, plugging and unplugging, different usb post.
Then I found this thread, saw the tip about the extension cable and thought 'I don't have one to try'! But then somebody mentioned that one comes with the keyboard so I searched my desk drawer and there it was. Plugged it in and it WORKS!! Thanks to whoever found this gem but, more to the point, Apple should be responding to let us know what the real issue is and how to fix it. Do we all have dodgy keyboards?

Oct 14, 2014 2:49 AM in response to Kipanby Tullinge,Can also confirm that the trick with Apple USB extension cable works to get the wired keyboard connected again. Have a brand new MacBook Pro with Mavericks. Really annoying. If I try a Win/HP keyboard it works, but my Apple keyboard just wont be found. I wonder if there is bad connections on the USB connector from the Apple keyboard. Happened to me twice now, and I am glad to have found a working solution (workaround). Lets hope that Apple looks into this connection problems with their external wired keyboards.

Oct 19, 2014 2:55 PM in response to nrorgby Krosfyah,In case anyone needs help as i've just solved this thanks to the advice here...
Was experiencing this intermittently on Mavericks. Upgraded to Yosemite today and neither USB port on my 15" MBP retina worked.
Tried PRAM and SMC reset - nothing.
Tried the keyboard in a PC - worked fine, so not a hardware issue. Plugged the keyboard back into my MBP - still nothing. Reset, shut down, restart - multiple times, all nothing.
As soon as i used the extension cable that came with my wired mac keyboard - lo and behold, it's absolutely fine!!
Not idea why the **** the extension cable that came with the keyboard should make it work, but it does. For all those experiencing this, try it with the extension cable.
Apple - please address this issue!
