Oct 18, 2014 6:31 AM in response to Oldconnaughtby Goobley,The first time I opened FT after upgrading to Yosemite, my camera just appeared black on my screen. I restarted the app and it fixed itself. However I did a completely clean install of Yosemite. Did you have anything installed on Mavericks that affected the camera?

Oct 21, 2014 9:36 AM in response to Oldconnaughtby iamnotmyusername,I had this issue with Mountain Lion that was fixed by the supplementary update ( MacBook Air (Mid 2013): FaceTime HD Camera might not work after OS X v10.8.5 update )
All was then okay with the world until, I think, 10.9 when it stopped working again. Tried everything suggested everywhere to no avail.
I upgraded to Yosemite this afternoon - and now the camera turns on for about 30 seconds, then the light goes off and all camera applications (Photo Booth, Skype etc) all report that no camera is connected. I can confirm that the FaceTime camera *is* listed under System Information - > USB, which it wasn't under 10.9, so this is progress of sorts. I have tried resetting the SMC as suggested in multiple places.
This issue is extremely frustrating and I've put a lot of effort into trying to fix it. I use the camera a lot for video calls with work and I'm about to have to resort to using an external camera on a supposedly high spec machine. I see a lot of other people are also having this issue on this thread and elsewhere.

Oct 23, 2014 2:42 PM in response to Oldconnaughtby jpperrin,I'm also having this issue
MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2011) after updating to Yosemite 10.10 my Facetime camera no longer works. Checked system report, it's in there under USB, but can't get it to function.
Hopefully Apple addresses this bug in the next release! Please let us know if anyone can find a fix for this.

Oct 24, 2014 1:53 PM in response to Oldconnaughtby MarcNoel1,Same here with 2011 17" MBP. The camera works with skype and Photo Booth but not with FT. It has to be a software bug, let's hope it will be fixed soon because it is really annoying.

Oct 26, 2014 3:56 PM in response to Oldconnaughtby antifocus,I am suffering from multiple annoying bugs in Yosemite and I decide to wipe out my disk and do a clean install.
I really hate this as it means I have do tons of reinstall and settings, and I just clean install mavericks 4 months ago.

Oct 27, 2014 11:23 AM in response to Mosblestby garry74,Mine works on FT, but does not work on webex. My iMac that was a standard upgrade (not beta) to Yosemite is fine, but on my new sparkly MBPretina no joy.. I have had to use a usb camera for last month. It doesn't make sense.

Oct 31, 2014 1:57 PM in response to Oldconnaughtby cfrombath,This is diabolical. Upgraded and found that iPhotos has gone, and now just found that the that my camera isn't recognised. Just not good enough Apple!! Being able to use FaceTime and Hangouts is essential for my working life - I'm going to have to revert to the old OS. I'd been led to believe that Yosemite was release quality software not a beta. If I was Product Manager of this software it would not be being released. Very disappointed.
