Q: OSX Yosemite Wifi issues

Hi there,

I upgraded my Macbook Pro Retina 15" (mid 2014 revision) to OS X Yosemite last night and am now having issues when using my home WiFi connection. Whilst it connects to either the 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz network, it is basically unusable. Web pages take minutes to load (if they even load at all), dropbox doesn't sync because it can't get a connection and even trying to get to the router config page is extremely slow and hit/miss.

Tethering to my iPhone seems to work ok, as does using my home network via wired ethernet.

Are any others having problems with Yosemite? Wifi was working fine on Mavericks.

I have tried everything, but my wifi at home still works randomly. It's a WPA Personal 2,4ghz network. It works for about 30 secs before it stops. If I'm lucky, I can browse in Chrome for hours with no problems, but it stops working as soon as I open up App Store. Then I have to restart my MBP to get it working again (if I'm lucky...). Right now I'm at work with a WPA2 Personal 5ghz network and have no problems at all. Weird......

I upgraded to Yosemite on Saturday   All other family mac books were still at Mavericks.  My MacMini was upgraded, but it was connected to the network via Ethernet Cable.

Only my macbook pro retina (Late 2013) running on Wireless was affected.

Bluetooth has always been turned off.  So that is not in conflict.

This morning, I checked my preferred network priority settings ...

    System Preferences --> Network --> Wi-fi --> Advanced --> Preferred Networks

My Wireless network had shifted in priority below my iPhone and my iPad.

I selected my Wifi network dragged it to the top. Hit Ok then apply.

It has been two hours. I have not experienced any wireless network failure.  Here is hoping.

Airport Extreme with both 2.5 and 5 GHz set up. Everything worked fine under Mavericks. Upgraded Macbook to Yosemite and I have the same Wifi problems as everyone else. Clear bug. The only thing that has worked 100% of the time for me, so far, is to assign a manual wifi IP address and use manual DNS instead of DHCP.

I only changed the wireless network mode of my router to "G-mode only" and now everything is back to normal.

    Hope it helps.

    I have the same problem.

I have a 10 months old MBP retina, and it worked fine until yesterday when I installed Yosemite, now my WiFi drops every other minute and its takes time for it to connect again.

Apparently apple support in Sweden answers this problem with "it has to be an error with your wireless card", which obviously is bull s**t.

This clearly happened to a lot of users since the installation of Yosemite, and is this problem getting fixed soon or do I need to uninstall Yosemite and install Mavericks again?

The only solution thats working now is that remove the password or encryption of the wifi and make it open wifi. Then it works without any problem.

Same problem here. Upgraded my macbook pro from Mavericks to Yosemite and since then, wifi connection is really bad. It connects to my wifi but seems like there is no traffic because websites takes too long to open or don't open at all. Apple, please FIX THIS NOW!!!.

I did the upgrade 2 days ago and wifi was working fine. When i turned on my laptop this morning, wifi started to fail.

I've tried everything posted here and in other forums. This is just an issue that apple has to workout, and fast.

I am just updating to say that I have so far tried the following and nothing works. I must repeat though that strangely this is only happening for one of the wifi connections I use.

My home wifi which is AC on 5Ghz and N on 2.4 using the talk talk super router. It is this that i am unable to maintain a usable connection with. Every other wifi network seems to be fine.

I have tried re-adding the wifi adapter with a different name, creating a different location, removing the bluetooth plist file but nothing works.

This is a MAJOR bug Apple. OS X Yosemite has got serious issues with Wifi.
