Have you ever considered fixing your network?

This update was incompatible with maybe 50% of my applications (VMWare Fusion, a number of java apps, email clients, word processing programs, ...).

It seems that Apple does not care about (or does not want) application compatibility?

Library versioning is a solved problem, so there is no good reason for this.

I installed Yosemite & found out several of my apps didn't work (Fusion, etc.) so I wen't back to the original OS (Mtn Lion).  But the first thing I noticed is the horrible GUI - they wen't from the nicest, most beautiful & polished interface on any of our LiNUX, Microsoft, Android & Apple computers, and they took me back to totally flat (Windows 3.1 circa 1992???)

I booted the Macbook Air with the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys pressed & wen't thru the steps similar to whats described above (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4718).  I formatted my OS partition (NOT the whole hard drive), then let the installer download Mountain Lion from the internet & installed it locally.  The whole process from Yosemite to Mountain Lion took about 5 hours (it's a few gigs down over home cable modem in Alaska).

The Microsoft upgrades let you CHOOSE to use the previous GUI style if you prefer it.  I'd love the look/feel of Mavericks inside Yosemite.  Can I download a theme/skin to accomplish that?

My new MacBook Pro 13' Retina get very slow since Yosemite...

Maverick was so fast and easy to use and now it is hard to me to work with it... my folders don't work and it feels like i had a MacBook from 2010, and this is not what i won't for this money i pay.

I'm having major problems since the update. Late 2009 iMac . After install folders like >applications and  >downloads never load, can't minimize windows, Doc is not showing at all. They just show a spinning wheel and empty contents. on the phone with apple support for 3 hours today and ended with a 48 hour call back. any ideas? Tried a fresh install of Yosemite twice, repaired disc permissions, check disc, restarted holding shift, created a new admin profile and still experiencing same issues...I'm lost.

I uploaded the same question as I hate this new update. It was advised that you can return to Maverick if you backed up with TimeMachine but I stupidly did not back all my stuff up - at all - so am I still able to revert back to Maverick (I don't understand all the lingo either) but, will I lose literally everything if i do?

    I have an iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011), 3.1 GHz Intel Core i5, 12 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, 1 TB SATA Disk

Yosemite has brought this machine to its knees.  It is slower than the 2005 HP PC that I gave up for the iMac!

So, although it sounds like a bit of a faff, the best solution for me will be to backgrade the new Macbook Air to Mavericks

Unfortunately, Macs cannot boot from any OS older than what they came with. So, if yours comes with Yosemite preinstalled, that is what you will need to get used to. However, if there is still stock left over which has Mavericks installed, go for it - ask when you are buying it.
