Q: How are Aperture and Yosemite getting along so far?

How are Aperture and Yosemite getting along so far?

Hi guys,

Is it OK for Aperture users to take the plunge and update to Yosemite, or is it wiser to wait for kinks to be worked out first? I didn't find any reference to this matter so far on this forum or on the web. I may have mort worded it correctly.

Thanks for responding,

Raphael

Also,

Why do I constantly run into the statement: "You are not allowed to create or update this content" when I click on "Post"? So annoying ....

I've had no issues with Aperture 3.6 on OS X Yosemite. There's an updated RAW converter that you can leverage if you want. I've found it has better shadow detail.

Thanks Lloyd. Where is that RAW converter located?

    Hi Raphael,

Aperture is working fine for me.

    Just a few glitches:

    • The new RAW processing makes it necessary for me to change the raw fine tuning settings on many of my RAW images. The colors are suddenly very vivid, and the images are overexposed (Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Lumix FZ28 DNG)
    • Aperture takes a long time to launch each time I start it, at least 40 seconds.
    • The annoying error message "you have opened the library with a newer version ....", when I previously opened the library in iPhoto has been fixed.
    • No more crashes.
Why do I constantly run into the statement: "You are not allowed to create or update this content" when I click on "Post"? So annoying ....

Does that happen, when you edit a post? You have only a window of 15 minutes to edit a post.

You told me once, I recommend the Raw Fine Tuning brick too often. You were right

Thank you Leonie. I guess it's the RAW converter Lloyd was referring to regarding look and feel..

Forty seconds to launch Aperture is NG.

And the problem with overexposure is that it plays into image contrast when one tries to restore the right exposure - everything looks harsher than in the same image with the 'just right" exposure. At least for me. Even when I use adjustments to compensate.

What kind of RAW fine tuning do you find yourself compelled into?

Happens on new posts, but I always manage to post. Maybe it's because I'm not clicking everything that needs clicking - who knows. Still, very annoying.

    Thanks Leonie.

    It's a system file, somewhere in /System/Library/CoreServices I believe.

Aperture 3.6 and Yosemite have been a nightmare for me unfortunately.  Every time I try to open it since updating to Yosemite it quits unexpectedly within 5 seconds or less.  I've tried repairing and rebuilding the library but that did not help.  Just get the below message.

That's awful Amihae. Very, very sorry to hear that.

Perhaps someone here can offer advice, or you can seek access to an Aperture trainer in an Apple store. Thank you for sharing your experience. Certainly makes me think twice before updating to Yosemite.

Same here! I just manually rebuilt my entire library and it's still quitting, no action necessary within 20 seconds of launch. Definitely a memory leak of some sort. Offhand, were you using the Yosemite beta? I was. I figure it must have something to do with the beta software. I'm downloading the publicly released version right now.

Hey everyone, I just installed the public release of Yosemite, and Aperture is back up and running as usual. Must've been something to do with the GM. If you were in in the beta for Yosemite, I am certain that this is the solution. NO NEED TO DO AN ERASE AND INSTALL! Just download Yosemite from the App Store and run the installer. 45 minutes later, you're back up and running. Enjoy!

so you guys believe it's worth upgrading? no big issues?

because i run mavericks and lately i see that aperture is crashing quite often. Yesterday i even had to rebuild the database.

I'm wondering if the new 3.6 and yosemite will fix this.

The Aperture 3.6 upgrade offered bug fixes, that are nice to have:  Aperture 3.6 Release notes

    Aperture 3.6 Update

    • Adds compatibility with OS X Yosemite.
    • Fixes an issue that could cause Aperture performance to slow down while browsing through images with onscreen proofing enabled.
    • Fixes an issue where Aperture could become unresponsive in rare cases when adding to a shared photo stream.
    • Fixes an issue that could cause Aperture to unexpectedly quit when using the Write IPTC Metadata to Originals feature.
    • Aperture no longer displays the alert, “This library has been opened with a newer version of Aperture.” when using Library First Aid with libraries previously opened in iPhoto.

Forty seconds to launch Aperture is NG.

I hope it is only temporary, due to maintenance work while upgrading the Aperture library.
