Q: Text message forwarding - no code on iPad or Mac

This is how I got mine to work:

Added on both OS and iOS devices my iCloud address under "can be reached at" along with my phone number still checked.

I then got the verification code on the OS.

I then un-checked my iCloud address on my OS but have to leave it checked on the iOS and it works. It does not work if I un-check the iCloud address from the iOS.

Yup!  I was gonna explain this as well, but you beat me to it, TofW!

I don't like having my icloud connected.  I'd just like my phone number connected to imessages, etc. 

If anybody finds a fix to this or if this is possible, please let me know.

on your iOS, make sure you have one of your iCloud accounts (emails) connected to the "Send & Receive" option.

This solved it for me:

You have to make the option Text Message Forwarding appear in Messages iOS Settings. It will only appear if you are signed in with the same apple id address on both of your devices IN iMESSAGES specifically. So, bare with me:

On iPad: Settings>Messages>Send and Receive> check your apple id address.

On Mac: Messages>Preferences> check apple id adress

On iPhone do the same thing just sign out and sign back in with the address that you are signed in with on your iPad and/or Mac. After that i got the Text Message Forwarding option on the iPhone, turned it on, received a code on my Mac, and entered it on my iPhone.

The crucial thing for me was to log in with the exact same adress on every device, and mind that the that you are logged in iMessages can differ from the adress that you used to log into iCloud on your phone, iPad or Mac.

I found out on another thread, the other KEY to making this work is make sure you have both your phone number AND your iCloud account email address selected as places you can receive messages.  As soon as I activated the email address I got the code.

Hope that helps.  I don't know if the shut off and on works or not. I tried that too and it didn't but the key was to add the iCloud account email as another place to receive messages.

This solved the problem for my Mac, but not for iPad. No code is showed on iPad.

No matter what I try, even going as far as rebooting both my iPhone 5s & MacBook Pro, my iPhone still asks for the code and all my Mac does is open up iMessages and provides no code whatsoever.

Do you have the same email address and phone number selected on your iPad as you do for your phone and mac? That was the key for me.  I actually had two addresses selected and had to remove one.

Seems the log off log on from both worked for me

I had noticed that though my MAC had my phone number AND an email address to receive messages from.. iPhone DID NOT

So I logged out of imessage account on mac.

Logged out of imessage account on iphone

Rebooted iphone (just for good measure)

Logged back into imessage in iphone

Added the email address to imessage on the iphone (as it previously only had my cell number) Set cell as default

Rebooted because SMS forward was not on iphone still, rebooted again still not there.

Logged into imessage on mac... verified mac had the phone number AND email setup and that phone number was default.

Then bing bang boom. mac popped up.. detected iphone asked if i wanted to it to handle sms.. put code on iphone mac gave me and it worked.

I had tried 10 times trying to initiate the setup by starting on iphone and going under messages and enabling the text forwarding.. then imessage would pop up on mac and iphone would ask for a code. But nothing would ever happen.. no code.

I was having the same problem with the SMS. 

What I did was activate all the email address under my iMessage account on my phone and on my Mac. Then before I knew it "BAM" finally, the long lost hidden code appeared. I know for sure that will work. 

I did not have to reset anything though.

After it started working, I noticed that you will need at least one email account linked with it. Doesn't have to be on the mac, but you will need on email address checked on the iPhone.
