Q: ATV 3 Version 7.0 Home Sharing not woking with Yosemite and  iTunes 12

Home Sharing from my Apple TV 3 (A1469) with software 7.0 is not working from the library on my MacBook Pro (Mid 2012) with OS X Yosemite 10.10, Airplay still works but its annoying to have to choose a Song/Movie/TV show from my MBP and then Airplay it to the ATV. Much preferred how well Home Sharing worked.

- I have both devices signed in to the same Apple ID.

- Have tired turning Home Sharing off and on

- Have restored the Apple TV

Using all devices on the same 5G wifi network (Huawei HG659b)

Most annoying thing is it was working perfectly before iTunes 12 was released.

Has anyone else discovered this problem? Does Apple or anyone have a fix?

Please HELP!

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10), Yosemite 10.10

Have you tried changing the name of your library in iTunes because a few people have said that has worked as well

SOLVED: Tried all the advises stated here in this post, and issue persisted. What I did different... I disconnected the electric cables form router, AppleTVs (because I have 2) and turned off home sharing (temporarily) from itunes on my mac. Reconnected router after about a minute of been disconnected. Installed all possible updates from the system (OS X Yosemite), I use to have my Mac connected with ethernet (it use to work perfectly) but now I have my mac with wifi as well as all the other devices. After all the updates were done on the computer, I reconnected all the AppleTVs to the electricity and Turned home sharing back on in my Mac. BOOM!!!! It worked It started loading my library on both AppleTVs... Hope this works for you too

    HUGE thank you!

I'll try this tonight... it was a very unhappy experience playing "stump the chump" with the Apple support staff for four hours on the phone on Saturday. To their credit, they were as frustrated as I was, especially since there is no way to get any more informative error messages from ATV.

    Best regards,

    - Loren

Hi J.,  I have had this same problem with my ATV 2 worked all day last Saturday trying to fix it.  When I updated my Mac Mini to Yosemite i noticed  that the update changed the name of my computer.  I read in this blog about changing the name of your computer.  I changed it back to what it was and Home Sharing worked without any problem.

Nice try thanks Vants, glad it worked for so many, I just wish it had worked for me.

Do Apple support read these threads? does anyone know? Do they care? If they do care are they likely to put it right?

If they did a beta version of yosemite surely that should have thrown up this problem.

If you are reading this Mr. Support, how about putting it right!!

Changing the computer name doesn't work at all, maybe it did with Yosemite betas but it DEFINITELY does not work with the release and besides that changing the computer name is no solution. In my case it breaks tons of other things. I.e. I can no longer connect to that Mac using scripts I have. I do not want to change them all only because of Apple's bug.

@ Apple: Fix this for god sake!

I have the official release, never installed a beta, and changing the computer name did work for me.  I changed the computer name BACK once the 'fix' worked, and it still works.  It looks like changing the name reinitializes some settings that fixes whatever the problem is, and they remain even when the name is changed back.

Only because it works for you doesn't mean it works for all.

I am using Macs since 20+ years and know pretty much how to use them. This is clearly a bug that needs to be addressed by Apple so that its a fix for ALL users.

Looks like someone else beat me to it, but I also did the name change with the official release.  Once my Apple TV started working I changed the name back again and it has continued working without any problems.  I have no idea why this worked but do agree that Apple need to sort this out.

Seems to me there are more than just the one problem because it obviously doesn't affect everyone and of the ones it does effect some can put it right by bastardising their macs. First and most importantly we shouldn't have to be changing computer names. This problem has been going on long enough for someone at Apple to know about it and respond. If customer satisfaction means anything to them they would do something sooner rather than later, before some customers become disillusioned with the product. I don't know when the beta version came out but reading the threads here it is obvious that there was a problem with this BEFORE the full release, so Apple should have done something about it first.

I totally agree with you.  I have the same setup on my Mid 2013 MacBook Air and it connected to my Apple TV without any problems at all, both with the released version and all beta versions. It stopped working on the iMac from Developer Preview 7. I also know this bug was reported to Apple during the beta phase because I was one of the people who raised a bug report, so who knows why it is taking so long.  I have noticed that Apple have also released an update to Apple TV this evening but I doubt that will cure the problem.

Well I guess if they already knew about it but couldn't be bothered to fix it, it aint getting fixed anytime soon. And I agree an ATV update is unlikely to fix it as that works perfectly with my iPad, and worked perfectly before this yosemite downgrade. Anyone wanna buy an Apple TV?
