    Try resetting the SMC.

    Hi Barry,

What my problem is my panasonic compact stereo system model no SC-HC55DB which is bluetooth compatible which worked perfect

with my macbook pro until I downloaded OS X Yosemite.  When I open system preferences and click on the Bluetooth icon

it shows that the bluetooth has picked up SC-HC55DB but it won't pair up, my answer to your question is the Bluetooth icon showing in the menu bar NO

    Many thanks for your help

The only thing I can think of to try is a reset of the PRAM.

Since I do not know anything about your external equipment, I have no thoughts there...

    Hi Barry

Thanks for your help I have tried that still won't work It would appear to me that it is a problem with the upgrade to yosemite

due to the fact it was working ok before, In hindsight I should have left well alone. As I know nothing at all about bluetooth apart from knowing that you can connect one to another, is there different frequencies I read on one report  on google that if the macbook pro is

running Bluetooth under 6.0 you have no chance of connecting  mine is 4.0 I don't know what this means like I said it's all above my head

Would I be right in thinking that 4.0 was ok for Mountain Lion but you need 6.0 for yosemite ?

I have not seen anything (not an exhaustive review) that would indicate that OS X 10.10 is causing Bluetooth problems. If that were the case, the forums would light up, I think.

Try contacting Panasonic to see if they are aware of problems or have a workaround.

Since your Bluetooth is on and you have tried the "standard" troubleshooting fixes, I do not have any further ideas.
