I have an iPhone 6 and I'm having the same problems accessing Siri using iOS 8 as reported by others.  I get the grey icon on the screen, but there's no audio output of Siri's voice and it's obvious that my commands cannot be heard either.  It's very annoying.  It's an intermittent problem in that it will work briefly after performing a soft re-boot, but it very quickly reverts to its previous inoperable state.  I'm hoping that when tomorrow's 8.1 update to iOS is released (for Apple Pay functionality) that it will also correct the problems with Siri.  If not, I guess I'm off to the Apple Store since it would appear that tech support can't resolve what's obviously a software issue (not sure what a new phone would do).

I have the same internal mic issue(s) described in the posts / replies.  Siri worked perfectly on my iPhone 6 running 8.0 when I activated it.  At some point it stopped working / understanding me but not sure exactly when.  I didn't upgrade to 8.0.1, upgraded to 8.0.2 (this is when I first noticed the issue but not sure if it is related to 8.0.2) and am now running 8.1.  I had two bluetooth connections, Uconnect with a Jeep (wrangler and cherokee).

I have tried the suggestions related to bluetooth....initiating siri interaction in both Jeeps (all works great by the way) then disconnecting bluetooth and resetting phone (iPhone 6 running 8.1) and it didn't solve anything.  I currently can only use siri with the wired headset.

Side note, I have an iPad Air running 8.1 and everything works perfect. Its never been connected to bluetooth, so maybe that is the issue?

Hope this is figured out and solved soon.

Have the same issue with my iPhone5 - Siri, front video, Skype no sound recorded, but switch to voice control or voice memo and it works fine. Just updated to 8.1 and no improvement. Done all the other stuff with resets, reboots etc.

Anyone got a solution yet ?

I have had this problem since I bought the iPhone 6.  It seems not to be the iPhone but rather iOS8.  I have spent hours on the phone with Apple Care and as of yet they have not found the problem.  I just upgraded to iOS8 yesterday and it has not been fixed.  Last night I spent almost two hours with a Senior Engineer and they have no clue.  My phone works perfectly.  Siri works perfectly except... when I am in my car and connected via Bluetooth to my car audio system.  I press the home button and say, Call John Jones at his office.  Siri responds over the car speaker, "Calling John Jones."  And then suddenly I get a message, Call Terminated by Network.  This is not intermittent but for every call.  If I go into my contact list and press John Jones (for an example), my phone dials out correctly and I can talk over the car audio system.

I really need the ability of pressing the home button and dialing via Siri especially when I am in Los Angeles traffic.

I agree with previous posters that iOS 8.1 doesn't fix the problem.

@Bruce Brown: it seems to me that you are describing a somewhat different problem: it is my understanding that the difficulty in engaging Siri occurs when using the built-in microphone, NOT over bluetooth.

    Odysseus,

I guess I am describing a different problem.  Funny though, I am using iOS8.1 as of yesterday and do not have any problem as you describe.  I can use Siri without Bluetooth to make a call, send an SMS or eMail or for that matter any other function and all functions work perfectly  without any problems.  I only have problems using Siri with my auto Bluetooth.

I updated to iOS 8.1 yesterday on my iPhone 6, but I'm still having the same problems accessing Siri as I had when I first got my phone. When I press the Home button, the normal Siri graphics appear on the screen, but there's no audio output whatsoever, and it's obvious that ant commands I speak are not being heard. The even more frustrating part is that, for whatever reason, sometimes it will start working, but only very briefly. Among other things, I use Siri with my iPhone connected via Bluetooth to my motorcycle helmet. That's a complete no-go without Siri, as I won't operate the phone any other way in that environment.

Come on Apple, get working on this and fix it!

I spent over 2 hours on the phone with a "Top Level" Apple Care Specialist.  We tried everything and they still do not have a clue as to where the problem is.

Do you have another phone or bluetooth device that you can try with your car? It sounds like a compatibility issue with your car.

Here's my 2 cents for what it's worth... simple and it worked for me!

    iPhone 5C

    iOS 8.0.2

Had no problems after update a few weeks ago. Suddenly yesterday, Siri could not hear me... "voice wave line" was not responding to sound. Googled it today, found an old thread first- read it out of curiosity- found this one post, tried it, and it worked. Siri is back. (with the exception of NOT double tapping the home button to close settings, it's a single tap).

Ok i actually just fixed mine lol. Go to settings.general.siri. Turn siri off click disable or whatever message pops up. Then double tap the home button and close settings. Reopen settings.general.siri. Turn it back on. Then hold the home button and activate siri while in the siri settings. Let me know if it worked for you. It worked for me i swear.

Thought of that .  I drive a Lexus.  I tried my phone with my girlfriends car (BMW) and also my buddy's Ford.  My phone did not work using Siri with any of them.

I meant: try a different iPhone with your car, esp. one not running iOS 8.

Doesn't work for me. The only sure-fire (but temporary) solution that I've found is to perform a soft reset: hold down home and power buttons *past* the point where the phone reboots. The Apple logo appears, keep holding, and then release once the logo disappears.

Previous to buying the iPhone 6 running iOS8, I had an iPhone 5S running 7.???.  It worked perfectly via Bluetooth with my car.  The problem is in iOS8
