Q: Mail Unable To Connect Error

For the last day and half, I've been unable to access my iCloud email through Mail on Lion.  I get the following error:

 

The server returned the error: The connection to host p03-imap.mail.me.com on port 143 failed.

 

According to the system status, iCloud Mail did have an issue but apparently they think it's resolved.  Anyone have any idea why I'm still getting an error?  I have no problems accessing iCloud Mail on any other devices or through Safari.

iMac 3.06 GHz 24, Mac OS X (10.7), 4 Gigs RAM

I found a suggestion that said to either check or uncheck the Mail, Preferences, Accounts, Advanced, SSL check box.  In my case, it wasn't checked so I checked it which switched the port to 993 and then it started working.  I also read that unchecking it to switch it to port 143 might help too.

 

I have no idea what changed but it appears to be working now.

    Solution:

     

    The solution for me was plain simple:

    turn off the VPN

     

    I've got the same error:

    The server returned the error: The server “p04-imap.mail.me.com” refused to allow a connection on port 993.

    I've came up on it, when I read Jo@work’s post „I solved it I solved it!!! It was a third party software conflict issue.“. So I looked what could interfere and I remembered my active VPN connection. So I disabled it and whoops, it worked! Thanks Jo@work!

    I had this issue and received the error message The server “p04-imap.mail.me.com” refused to allow a connection on port 993.

    After going back and forth, I realised that if I looked at Mail. Mail > Preferences > Accounts  my Email Address was an @me.com address However, when I went to System Preferences > iCloud > Account Details > Contact it only had @mac.com I added the @me.com and it seems to have fixed the issue (for now)!
