Oct 22, 2014 1:54 AM in response to .David Burtonby Toby007,At the time I though that I had created a new apple ID and pass as I can sign in to iCloud and answer the usual security questions which isn't a problem.
However the old ID and pass are a problem as the apps seem to identify with the past, I have no way of recovering the password!
Thanks

Oct 22, 2014 2:12 AM in response to .David Burtonby ScottieB.123,I'm having the same problem, I had created a whole new appleID myself. My system preferences won't even close or let me minimize. It's literally frozen but only for that window. I've even turned the laptop off several times. Has been like this for about a whole a week now.

Content bought using One Apple ID cannot be merged or transferred to another Apple ID.
To update/re-download you'll need the same Apple ID originally used.

Oct 22, 2014 6:46 AM in response to Toby007by CroMagnum,If it is as you say - Fantastical asking for the ID information...
Fantastical wants to access your iCloud calendar. It didn’t require a new account, it wanted access to your existing account in order to sync calendars. Previously, it would be resolved by giving out your iCloud password to that app. Not a comfortable thing to do. Means one more place you could get hacked, because one more app has that password.
If you don’t want to sync - you used to be able to take the iCloud address out of the list in Mavericks (information found in these forums). That may not be what you want to do, however.
I’m stalled on this myself right now: getting the 2 step verification working - the fact appears that to protect you from 3rd party apps having your passwords, you need to set up 2 step verification (from my read of it).
That is a resolution to all 3rd party apps that require access to your iCloud log-ins & should make your iCloud account more secure.
Fantastical, among those 3rd party apps. I can’t offer more, because I’m in the middle of reconciling this myself.
No warranties on the information above, but I think that is the condition.

Oct 22, 2014 7:09 AM in response to CroMagnumby CroMagnum,The crux of the problem is - not knowing your old ID?:
Did you check the Apple Keychain for that information? (probably overwritten on the change, but I ask anyway)
Or you have to contact Apple support. As someone pointed out here - you will be unable to update anything bought off the Appstore with that old ID if you don’t resolve that one.

App-Specific passwords

2 Step Verify

To use iCloud with any third party apps (such as Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, or BusyCal) you must sign in using an app-specific password. App-specific passwords allow you to sign in securely, even if the app you're using doesn't support two-step verification. Using an app-specific password also ensures that your primary Apple ID password isn't collected or stored by any third party apps you might use.
