I think you will find this is a Canon issue and not up to Apple to fix. What version of MP Navigator are you using? Have you checked the Canon web site for a later version of MP Navigator for your model?

Gregory, I have Canon MP800 and same issue for me after upgrade to Yosemite. Work around...on Main Menu, bottom left - click on "Scan with Scanner Driver". I checked Canon website and no later version for MP800 yet. In another post someone purchased VueScan. I'll wait and use the scanner driver.

I have the same problem with a Canon MP530 under Yosemite. I'm not sure why Canon can't get their act together to have updated drivers and software. Very aggravating.

I can confirm that pmt513's workaround works. That's fine for single pages. But what about batch scanning?

Here's another partial workaround. The main MP Navigator interface still allows you to do the scanning, both single pages and batches. You just can't save, send, or export those scans. But the temporary files are on your disk in TIF format. If you don't mind taking those and converting them to PDF or JPG (which you can do in Preview), then just look in the following folder to the files:

    ~/Library/Caches/Temporaryitems/MP Navigator 2.2/SCN_MFP

I have put an alias to it on my desktop so that I can easily access the scans. Be sure to copy the TIF files out before you close (and thus clear) the MP Navigator window as that also clears the files from that cache folder.

I hope this helps some of you.

Excellent solution for batch scanning, thanks! Yes, a few more steps but better than buying a pricey app like VueScan or new scanner. I'm not too hopeful that Canon will update drivers for what they call "seasoned" products like my MP800.

Check Canon's Mac OS X compatibility support page:

That Mac OS X compatibility page is useful, but discouraging. The fact that they support some devices, but not all, makes little sense. And it's not like the scaner driver is not working. It does; we can scan!. It's just the MP Navigator front end interface has problems. They have other versions of MP Navigator for other devices. It's looney! Why not have one version of the program to support all devices? I can tell you one thing, my next printer/scanner is NOT going to be a Canon.

The Canon australian site has an "Updated" mp navigator http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0200327802.html  that was just put up a few days ago. Alas the pkg file gives me errors.

What I ended up doing is using Acrobat pro and  "File" -"Create" - "PDF from scanner". This will firstly open the Acrobat scan window and disregard all the options, just click "Scan". This will then open the twain driver. Choose the "Advanced" tab in that for precise options e.g. dpi. Then "scan".

Now, here is the key point: After the first page scans, you will get a tiny window that asks for "Scan more pages (sheet 2)" .

    Winner winner, chicken dinner.

Canon's web site seems to show that MP530 and MP800 are supported with their software and drivers through 10.7 but no further.

Well it worked with 10.9 ...it was working fine with Mavericks and is still working fine with mavericks on my laptop, cause I held off upgrading all my apple computers. It's a good thing I did. I feel I like I'm Beta testing yosemete on my desktop

When something is not supported by the manufacturer, it's really only luck that it works with an OS that is beyond the last one that they support. I don't think this is Apple's issue ("Apple please fix this problem"), it is a matter of how many or which of the older printers Canon decides to go to the time/expense to support by making their drivers and software compatible with the latest operating systems. You might consider calling up Canon to try to find out if they EVER intend to provide that support for your printer.

P.S. I have found that the Canon software/drivers provide nice functionality but can be quirky to install and sometimes (but not always), after an OS upgrade, a complete re-install (from scratch, as if the printer were brand new) is required. Have you tried removing and reinstalling all the Canon drivers and software for your device?

has anyone found a solution to this, exactly same issue with my lovely MP800?

Mavericks was just fine, now i have exact sam issue as in the picture first post, found no other nice/smart solution. ***** that Canon support only driver with a fix combined sw-version of MP-Navigator.....i really don't like to consider a new system, for sure not Canon anymore when there is no other smart solution....tried anything, but any newer version of MP-Navigator will not work with the driver....grrr...even considering to go back to Mavericks....

This will might solve the TWAIN issue, but not the MP Navigator software.

I'm unable to locate ~/Library/Caches/Temporaryitems/MP Navigator 2.2/SCN_MFP. When I go to ~/Library/Caches/ there's no Temporaryitems folder.

I'm on Yosemite and running Navigator 2.2.5 and was attempting to do a batch scan. Does anyone have any suggestions on why I can't find the temporary files or where else they might be located?

This may seem far-fetched, but I'm using MP Navigator 1.0.7 under Yosemite, and it's working just fine with my MX700 printer/scanner.

If it supports your printer, you might want to give 1.0.7 a try; if it doesn't, maybe an intermediate version that does support your device will work.

Amazeballs, the folder only exists while MP Navigator is still running and after you have made a scan. So, scan a page or two, then look for the folder before you clear or close MP Navigator. Of course if you are using a different version of MP Navigator, then it may save the temporary files in another place. Look around. They will be somewhere.

p.s. make sure you are looking in the user's Library folder, which is in the user directory, but hidden (use the Finder's Go menu to get to it). Don't bother looking in the Library folder at the root of the hard disk.
